I am working on completing a collection (started in 1994) of one original card from every player in the Baseball Hall of Fame and I need three more to finish collection.
Can the Net54 members enlighten me about whether there was ever a card done for Candy Cummings? If not, what would be the oldest variation?
BTW... also need Bid McPhee and Deacon White.
Thanks

There is a composite of the 1873 Baltimore BBC that consists of about ten of so individual CdV's, mounted on a large cardboard backing. One of the CdV's is Candy Cummings, so there is at least one card of him. But the owner is a major collector who would never break up the set.

The easiest way to find Cummings is the 1875 Hartford team CdV. Those are scarce but come up for sale occasionally.

There are two Hartford CdVs, an 1875 and an 1876 (Hartford's only year in the NL).

Jay is correct, and the 1876 is quite a bit rarer.

Jay, beautiful images! Do you know who owns them?:)

Hi Jay. I bet I know the owner well too. And I meant to congratulate you on completing the N370's. That's no small achievement.

Thanks Barry! I’ve always really liked the way those cards look.

Without Jay's thumbs in the photos how do we know they are really his?? :)

Nice Hartfords by the way Jay.

There used to be a purported tintype of Cummings but I think the identification fell apart.

Here's a list for you...I have only seen one example of the first 1870 woodcut and it is owned by a Net54 member. It's much larger than a "card", so not sure if it meets your definition.

1870 The World Newspaper Woodcut (solo image)
1871 NY Clipper Woodcuts (7/8/71)
1873 Baltimore Team Composite
1875 Prescott & White Hartford Dark Blues Team CDV
1876 Isaac White Studio Hartford Dark Blues Team
1939 Centennial of Baseball Stamps #6
1939-43 HOF Sepia PC
1939 Wheaties "Curve Ball"

Many thanks to all for your response to assist in finishing HOF collection. I gathered the Cummings variation would be a challenge and I was correct.

Leon... I appreciate your forum and all the work you put in to make it successful!
