Outing this auction on Net54 is against an unwritten rule here. Now I don’t have a chance to win the auction, because you have alerted all the Registry freaks on this forum.

The card will now sell for $87,433,213.67.

The hammer price will be justified by the winner, several underbidders and Joe Orlando. The auction results will be used in future PSA advertising promoting their Registry.

The winner will end up 1/10 of a point below the #1 T206 set in the Registry though. After shedding a few tears, he will crack the card out of the holder and resubmit it hoping to get it into a 10 holder. Money will change hands under the table and his dreams will be realized.

This is really such a great hobby even if an OP occasionally breaks the rules.

Does anyone know the seller and/or has done business with them? Anyone ever seen the card before (aside from it being listed on ebay previously as a BIN)?

:)

Someone once asked me what an auction item would sell for, and I said "Ask me when the auction is over."

The bottom two corners don't look as Mint as the top two.

Barry - I thought the same thing. Kind of a curious comment for such a "ultra high grade" card.

Bidding on this card has more than tripled its ebay price since it was outed. That said, there are apparently six PSA 9s of this card out there. I cannot imagine that this is one of the nicer examples.

Heritage has sold two of the six PSA 9s (selling one of them twice), with both reported sales in 2018 being a bit over $100k.

This PSA 9 is not one of the ones Heritage had sold prior

+1 Doesn't look like a nine to me at all. But, if a transaction actually occurs, the buyer probably doesn't care. The only thing that matters is the number on the flip.

Doesn't feel right. Selling a PSA 9 Johnson on ebay makes no sense to me, less exposure, less experience with selling a 50k+ card, etc. Also, feedback while positive only shows details of sales under $200, most of the other feedback and listings are private (proven to be a red flag in the past). It might be a good listing but I have a feeling that in a few days or less this will turn out to be something other than advertised.

it could be a situation where the seller set a sky-high reserve, and if it hits, he's happy, and if not, no harm done.

i just checked out his store.
Mentions the name Zach.
He has some nice items such as:
PSA 8 Koufax RC
PSA 7 Clemente RC
Several Wilt Chamberlain (basketball) PSA 9,8,6 &sgc92
Hockey, Football cards and other oddball baseball cards.

That's a pretty soft 9. Nice card, but it shows how much tougher the TPGs have become as of late.

I apologize

That was not my intention

I did not know this was an unwritten rule

I figured with it being such a high profile card everyone would be watching it anyways

I think $150K-$175K plus.....Also, it is not the Harris card, and my bet is that the reserve will not be met....

Why anyone would pay anywhere near 150-175 is beyond me when 2 nicer ones sold at Heritage last year for 108 and 114?

Big difference between this year and last year when considering the big name portrait T206s.

There is not one high grade T206 that has sold this year anywhere near the price of last September’s Heritage T206 auction. This one won’t either. The seller is delusional and his reserve will almost assuredly never be reached.

Both look like solid cards...Having said that, either they were very good buys, or this Johnson in question is going to exceed expectations....I would choose the later even though it won't meet reserve....

This card is by far the worst of the three. I’d be surprised if it got past 100-110. The seller can stand in line with the guy selling the JJ T210 A for 145K that’s been listed for months, the E121 Ruth 7 at 139K that’s been the same and the rest of the eBay silly sellers who think they’re the only smart ones and someone will come along dumb enough to pay their far over market value prices. I guess when 90% of your net worth is tied up in one card this is what you try to do. Their time might be better spent finding a real career.

14 hours left and it’s at 89K. Not too far off from what it’s worth. Looks like the sellers dream of 250K is going unanswered.

I still see cards on ebay that I would swear have been there for a decade, or longer.

Ended at 89k and no sale. FWIW I like this one on ebay better than the other 2, but that is just me.

and now a relative bargain at 135k OBO...

I think this card is a bargain anywhere near the $100K mark. Maybe somebody knows him and they can save the big fees of Ebay and Paypal. If he is listing it at $135K, $100k net for somebody is not out of the question, that would be a bargain IMO.....Agree Leon, I thought this card was stronger than the others as well....

That’s what it’s worth. If he’s willing to accept that he’ll sell it, if he isn’t then he won’t. No one is paying 135K.
