Recently discovered that a nice gentleman that I work for takes care of the burial plot of Honus Wagner. He is buried just outside of Pittsburgh. His name is Dr. P and he has some family at rest nearby and also does the upkeep for the Wagner site. Anyway, I found it a neat story and wanted to share with the Net54 community.

Awesome. Do you know the address? Not to be creepy, but I go through Pittsburgh every now and then and I would very much like to visit this.

Thanks

As morbid as it sounds, visiting Cobb's crypt has always been on my bucket list.

I'd like to see where he grew up, but my understanding is most of the buildings with any attachment to him are long gone...

My great grandfather is literally buried about 20 feet from former T206 player Frank Arellanes in San Jose, California.

I don't believe this to be morbid at all.

In France there is a well visited cemetery in Paris that are the resting place of writer Voltaire and Jim Morrison of the Doors. It's a pilgrimage of a sort and an honoring of the past.

I plan to visit a few t205 featured players interred locally here in New York.

Since when has it been "creepy" or "morbid" to pay your respects and visit the grave of someone - albeit famous or noteworthy?

You shouldn't feel the need to qualify any of this gentlemen :)
And visiting the grave site of someone as preeminent as Voltaire would be quite moving.

My father-in-law is buried literally 20 feet from Honus Wagner. I had no clue. My wife and I went and I looked around and there was Honus Wagner....like 3-4 graves away.

It's just strange how that works out, huh? My great great grandmother is buried on the same row as alleged axe murderer Lizzie Borden and my dad is buried about 100 feet from one of the 9/11 pilots. Just strange and interesting.

For those of you who wish to search for graves you can use https://www.findagrave.com/ I see nothing wrong with seeking out graves of famous people. I once wandered through Arlington National Cemetery looking for graves of Civil War Generals. I have also gone to the Vietnam Wall to photograph the names of the Olympians who died in battle.

That is cool. There are still kind people in the world. Thanks for posting this.

Brendan- Wow, that is sort of unreal (if you are being serious?)

My parents grave is about 10 feet from my high school baseball coach.

Many photos on Deadballera website. I live about 2 miles from Carrigan's grave and visit every year.

Leon, 100% serious. Found it completely by accident. Pittsburgh is not too big; just the right size. So you can find a lot of historic things here completely by accident. Also recently found out that a softball field I play at 1-2x a week in the black softball league I play in was home to the Homestead Grays in the 30's and 40's...
