We recently went through the T213-1 is it a T206 debate again and saw some great T213-1 cards - how about an updated T213-3 showing? I love these cards - my only two.

I have these six. Still looking for a Jack Quinn to complete my Yankees team set and a Hal Chase w/ trophy for my Chase collection. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190225/ee61dd5b466a58c49eaf8a85ff7cd957.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190225/39deed44bb9980478bc658678879fa6f.jpg

My only one is a Gandil too. I like how a previous owner knew what grade it was going to get and wrote it on the back 100 years ago... :D

Great thread!

Also, I'd like to plug our collective effort at a "virtual set" of T213-3 overprints:

Comparing the Type 3's to the Type 2's can be interesting. For instance, the Type 3 Hummel that is shown above does not have a team name, but the Type 2 Hummel, with the exact same pose, has a Brooklyn version and a Brooklyn Nat. version.

The Type 3 Miner Brown is extremely cool. Type 2 has the same pose, with a St. Louis Nat. caption and a Chicago caption.

Rick, is there a good place to go to learn about which of the team captions are tougher to find than others for the t213-2s?

I have the same one as Patrick, but maybe mine has a different back than his. I don't even know T213's. Is this the wrong version? If it is, sorry!

David - yours is a type 2. Which is the most common of the three variations. Still a nice looking card.

I'm sure someone's already noted this here, but it's interesting that the price of a Coupon cigarette increased 150% in the 3-5 years between the printing of the Type II and Type III cards.

A good place is the PSA pop report. For example Bresnahan Chicago has 18 graded and Bresnahan Toledo has 2 and so on.

Here's a Cobb with an expensive wrinkle...

Yes, the pop reports are the best place.

I don't want to mix a lot of Type 2 posts on a Type 3 thread, (I guess I did that already :)). It seems that the Type 2's that were issued in 1914 are the most common, for the most part. Then the 1915's, and the 1916's are generally the toughest. If you look at the type 2 players in "Baseball Reference, you will come across players who never played for the team that is shown on the caption of the card, and these tend to be the later issues of Type 2. For instance, Jeff (Ed) Sweeney Played for New York from 1908 - 1915, and his Type 2 captioned New York Amer. is pretty common. He also has a Type 2 that is captioned Richmond, but as far as I can tell, he never played for Richmond. He was playing in Toledo in 1916. The Richmond version of his Type 2 is a tough one to find.

I am not an expert on this set and there are several people on this board who are much more knowledgable that I am who may be able to contribute more info.

Hi Rick

Well said.....and, here are two more T213-2 cards with wrong teams.

Ed Summers' Major Lge. career ended in 1912 (his pitching arm was no longer effective).

Germany Schaefer switched to the Federal Lge. in 1915 playing for Newark (not K.C.).

Nice cards everyone! This may have been discussed before, but why do some Type 3's have the name of the city/team behind the player's name and others, like the Kid Elberfeld, only have his name? (I am assuming when produced these players were not actually playing/retired, etc. ?? If that is the case, why not pick another player in the league !? ) Seems, almost like a limited release of cards from an older brand that came out in 1910, then 1914, and finally 1919...

Here are the only two Type 3 Coupons I own :

Great card Rob. I have one as well, but it’s a much lower grade. I don’t have access to my scans at the moment, so I can’t post it. :(
