Am I mistaken, or is this the Henry Johnson stamp that was added in the 1990s (or maybe I'm off by a decade)?

Sadly, fake.
Henry Johnson backs are rubber stamped with serif type in the company name. This link to Prewarcards.com shows what an authentic back should look like.

Is the underlying Wood card even real?
I bought this one in 1978, and since it wasn't on the checklist and had some other weirdness was told it's fake.
Same tan color instead of white.

Now that is a good question. I guess I was giving PSA the benefit of the doubt since they had it in hand, but I don't recall seeing any others in that color.
The card looks like a reprint to me.
