On the bright side looking forward - players like Brandon Nimmo, Peter Alonso, McNeil, Gimenez and Conforto give the Mets hope. They have had a disappointing past but the genius of Sandy Alderson to restock the farm system has been paying dividends for both pitching and hitting. Maybe someday the Mets will have their forever franchise player - but this guy is going to have a heart Attack long before then.

As an armchair GM, I enjoy following all the wheeling and dealing of every team. What I can't understand is why the Mets acquired two second basemen with contracts totaling $140 million, and their rivals, the Nationals, settled for a second baseman who is younger and will likely as good as either — and has a $9 million deal.

Lowrie is going to play 3rd and could backup at SS and 2nd if the Mets decide to move Cano to 1B if Alonso doesn't make the team.

While I was not a huge fan of the Cano trade, they did get rid of 2 bad contracts (Bruce and Swarzak) and got one of the best closers in baseball in return, who makes nothing in salary.

Dozier in his best year was never as good as Cano.
