Ask Frank or Ted, they probably remember. :D

I was asking because I have an original photo used for one of the cards and the captain on back is Spring Training of 1941. I would highly doubt they got it done for the beginning of the season. Heck if you look at cards from the 90s in hockey some shots used were 3 years old.

Phil Rizzuto is in the set. Rizzuto's card is 61-62 (with Lefty Gomez). That is in the first half of the set, so there were only 30 panels before that. He didn't make his major league debut until April 14, 1941. That would lead me to believe that these didn't come out until a bit later, unless there was a very short first series that was released at the beginning of the season.

I don’t know about 1941 Double Play, but 1948 Bowman baseball cards didn’t come out until late summer, no earlier than mid-July. I went through all the evidence in this thread:

Late in the season was what I was thinking. For the record my photo is of John Rucker, card #137.

Thanks for the info guys!

Johnny Mize's lawyer put a injunction on the distribution until Francis J. Good's ruling on June 27th 1941. He dismissed the case. However that's a little misleading because at that point, Gum Products, Inc. had already distributed 240,000 cards.
