I was looking at a recent ad for a 1953 Topps Mantle card that had been graded VG-EX 4.5 by PSA. The ad stated the card had "very minimal wave" otherwise the grade would be higher. Does that mean the card is slightly bowed but without a wrinkle or a crease ? Will a slightly bowed card typically receive a downgrade ?
Thanks
Russ

Saw that card myself; was really tempted to pull the trigger but once I fall down the rabbit hole of getting triples of Mick cards, things get crazy, LOL. Gorgeous card IMO.

not positive about his meaning but there is a wrinkle horizontal in the top of the card visible on the back.

Could have written minimal WEAR and it auto corrected? I've never heard that term

I would interpret wave as "surface wrinkle", personally.

Edited, guess it is a wrinkle, since he says you can't see it in the scan. Bowed typically doesnt get a downgrade or all these "fresh from vending" listings would be fruitless :)

Confusing because ad says "can not see it in the slab" not the scan

I think the consensus is right.....a wrinkle and I agree a slight bowing should not get a downgrade (and how would that even be visible when card is in a slab??)

That card is a beauty. Wouldn't stop me from getting it if I had the funds.....

Possible there is a wrinkle on the reverse but I think the OP is wrong and the groove in the paper is more a natural element of the paper stock.

Either way, I can tell by the way the card sits in the holder that it has a curl to it so I think...that is what the seller is implying by wave. Nice looking card wrinkle, curl, wave or not.
