View Full Version : PSA Grading Fees 2019

Boy is it ever getting expensive to grade with PSA. Anyone else get the email earlier today with the increased rates? I think we all got the message that they want their piece of the market.

I don't have an issue with their raising fees but the part that does not sit right with me is how inconsistent they are and how often so many people claim they have to resubmit the same card. I am sure sometimes it is wishful thinking on the part of the person submitting. For these new fees they really need to get it right the first time and my guess is the increase in fees will not bring with it an increase in accuracy.

I haven’t submitted much in the past, but this year I submitted about 100 cards and I was very pleased with both the turnaround time and the consistency of the grades. The customer service was also outstanding.

It is basic economics. When demand exceeds supply, prices go up. More people are grading cards, so their wait times have gone up. They also have hired more graders. You raise prices until it causes demand to drop.

Someday, I'm going to have a really hard time shelling out $5k to get a card graded that's 'valued' over $100k. Yikes!!

I submitted a card that I picked up at the Philly Show yesterday.(1 K value)
I was surprised when they told me that they lowered the return shipping and insurance cost from $18 to $14 .

All the people that submit at the Regular submission or bulk submission are unchanged on price starting next year (although bulk increased just months ago). So for the majority of submitters, this won't affect them at all.

$200 for a T3 is absolutely crazy. I can't imagine many more will be graded at that price.

Amazon should get into grading cards....on second thought, that's a terrible idea

2 years ago I sent in couple times when they ran a special bulk rate $6. per card. Now I see $10. on their monthly special. Doubt if we ever see $6. again. Now makes you think twice for sure on the cheap stuff.

swarmee

Yeah, it's $8/card when you send at least 100. (Or in November, the min send was 25 if they were all pre-1956.)

But yeah, cheap prices may not return. One guy on the PSA/CU message board called them about getting a better rate with a prospective submission of 5,000+ cards and was told $8/card was all they could do.

Maybe it's time for the fellows that were developing that computer based system to make their foray into the market!

SGC already announced that they will be going to computer grading and scanning every newly submitted card, right? At least we'll see whether they get more accurate or not. Accuracy and consistency with SGC is not something people normally complained about. Usually it's the resale value.

500 bucks for a card between 5k and 10k seems crazy too. As does 200 bucks for a card from 2-5k. I don't remember the old fees but this seems like a big increase.

Apple should write software to grade 100% perfect every time. They could probably slab a thousand a day, and put PSA outta business. hehe

I submitted two cards at the Chicago Show costing a total of $54. Hoping to have them back in time for the National.

Yeah it is absurd. It obviously is not costing them THAT much more so this is just an attempt to get a piece of the action. SGC does a much better job at getting it right the first time so despite their cards typically selling for less, I think I will spend my money with them.

Why does PSA raise their fees? Because they can.

I will be much less likely to send in cross over or bump attempts at these new fee levels. Hopefully others feel the same and fees will return to more reasonable amounts. I don't feel like spending 10% of what a card is worth just for another post it note that says corners.

Fees will never go down. That's like waiting for airlines to get rid of the baggage fees when the price of fuel goes down.....it never happened.

The fees for stamps-
PF starts at $27, and is 5.5% of the value with a $1000 cap on the fee
APEX starts at $20 min for members, 3% with a max fee of 400 OR 40/5/800 for non-members.
PSE is about the same.

And there's NO guaranteed turnaround time.

Even with the increase, the PSA fees don't look so bad.

Yea I wont be holding my breath. But I will submit less and will stick to buying cards in a holder I'm happy with.

So is their grading accuracy.

Have they announced new autograph fees? And is it now $200 to grade ANY T3? That is more than many of the commons value.

Leon, that's how I interpret the T3 pricing.
From the PSA website.

SUPER EXPRESS *$200
Maximum declared value of $4,999 and all T3s must be submitted at this service level or higher.

ESTIMATED TURNAROUND: 2 Business Days

As a raw T3 collector, I'm hoping this keeps more out of slabs. What a waste of money (and plastic).

I think the other frustrating thing is the turnaround times are all a bit nebulous. It may be 2-day turnaround for Super Express, but it takes 10 days to enter it into the system and start the clock.

Yup. My experience has been that the company is run almost 100% the opposite of how SGC runs their business.

I guess when you are number one and nobody makes you accountable for any of your many errors, and everyone keeps sending more and more business to you, you get to do what ya want.

This is what I don't understand, last year I submitted about 1500 cards, as soon as the t/o time became ludicrous, I stopped submitting. I was going to pay up for the 15 day service until i read someone on the cu boards paid for 15 day and is sitting at 51 days. How is that acceptable?

I have found that properly marking the outside of the box, as well as placing a call after tracking shows they received a shipment help to speed up starting the clock. As does dropping it off in person if you're in the area.

How do you get to do that? When I called and asked, they would not give me their address. They claimed that it was a bonded location, and couldn't have everyone just coming in dropping off cards. Or did they lie to me?

PSA is the industry standard and grades far more cards then anybody else. Thus, their oops specimens far exceed anyone else is the way I take it. I'm one guy who has no interest in any other company other then PSA. That's who I chose to start with and that's who I will sink or swim with. :D They do a great job for the most part.

Yes other than marking the outside of the box, you should not have to call and remind them to start doing the job that you are paying them for...

I think that's the standard response, but every time I've gone in there were others dropping off cards as well. There is even a room set up to fill out forms, and you wait for an employee to come pick them up. There is a minimum service level at least one of the cards has to meet, but the rest can be at lower levels. A quick google search will show their address even though they don't publish it on their site.
