Im curious as to opinions after reading about an altered PWCC-HE card posted on eBay. While PWCC is a consignment company, does slapping that PWCC certification on a card change that roll and make them liable?

Can you link whatever you read? Is the card graded Altered by PSA, but labeled HE or PQ by PWCC? That's no problem. HE and PQ are only telling you about the eye appeal of the card, not that it deserves a better grade.

I noticed PWCC listing a 1950 Bowman PSA Jackie Robinson HE/PQ card. Wanting to compare and see if it justified the money, I compared it to others on eBay. Thats where I ran across this one. Of course this stirred a conversation with some dealers and collectors. The comments ranged from "The one being listed might also be suspect if it came from the same person"..."How or why would people pay thousands more on some cards just because a company attached a sticker saying it was pretty"..."PWCC should stick to consigment because you cant say a card is in the top 5% of all cards in its grade when you cant even spot an altered card"...."One or both companies should address this"...."Its bad enough getting burned by PSA, let alone add in an additional company and the total cost of the lose"....."PWCC should add in a disclaimer stating card isnt even guaranteed to be authentic or not altered" ect. I believe the reason why PWCC is being centered out is because in some cases, the card sells for double or triple of what the actual card is worth with just the grading company. Lets say a PSA graded Reggie Jackson rookie sells for $150 but it has really nice centering and would sell for $200. Add in the HE sticker and all of a sudden it does $600. Not only would you be mad you spent $200 on an altered card but you would be really mad if spent the additional $400 on top of that. People get upset when they lose money...maybe thats why some folks pay the big bucks to PSA and PWCC to know its a safe investment and one of the best possible choices.

There have been many cards that one grading company gave a number grade to that another company said was altered. I have had it happen. I have had PSA say a card was altered and have them give it a grade the next time.

Sounds like BS to me. Who would crack out a card in a psa 6.5 holder with a high end pwcc sticker to send in to bvg? And if it's true it doesn't say much for the common sense of this seller. Either way I would stay away.

My E90-1 Cobb came back from SGC as altered and they didn’t grade it. There were tiny specks of a scrapbook on the back. Waited 10 years and sent it to PSA and it came back a 2.5

I don’t even bother to question their methods anymore.

Yeah, seems like nothing to worry about here. Just because BGS claims it's altered, doesn't mean it is. If the guy bought the card hoping/wishing for the bump, he would have sent it back to PSA as a review submission.

I once read that grading is progressive and the more they grade a card, the more knowledge is accumulated. Of course that just gets more confusing as some cards seem to now be allowed leeway while others will seem to be forever held to a ridiculous standard.

The big issue I see with all TPG’s is if your an expert grader, how can you not tell If a card is trimmed? True some card doctors are very good at what they do but if the card was trimmed, a professional should be able to catch it...especially when looking at the card while magnified. It seems to me Beckett is better at catching trimmed cards. I’ve had several cards originally graded by PSA I cracked and sent to Beckett in hopes of getting a higher grade and some have come back altered. I would then send them back to PSA and sometimes they would slab it and other times say it was altered.
