Any thought to whether this was good or not?

Only 1 Ebayer took a chance but a veteran one (higher feedback rating) at that.

What a waste of $400 (the catalog is scarce and is probably worth $100 or so).

I noticed it was in pencil

forgers use pencils to create fake autographs on old paper because if you use ink the paper absorbs the ink differently than it would when it was new giving away tell tale signs it is a fake...pre-ball point pen by the masses

I have a Gehrig I bought in the mid 90's that is in pencil on a pic of him taken out of a Who's Who of Baseball...it looks great but I have my doubts of it being legit(who carries around a page from a book to get signed at a barnstorming game????)

People repeat this like it's a concrete rule and it's not. It's very misleading.

Old paper doesn't always feather. New paper doesn't always not feather. It depends on the condition of the paper's surface coating, the viscosity of the ink, and if the ink is water based, alcohol based, oil based, etc.

What a waste of $499.99!!!!

Selling forgeries on Ebay is actually easier than selling authentic autographs.

Look at this crap.

looks like a kid was just practicing his autograph...I would have hated to pay 400 and than find out its garbage...I guess on bright side it was only 400 bucks.:(:(

That's 2 people now in this thread that have said it was "$400".

$499 is not $400, its $500.

This is the same logic my wife uses when buying something.

The point was, if you read the OP. that the catalog itself is worth $100, so the "winner" is really only down $400.

Ah!

That's why this board needs a Professor, such as yourself.

Collins appears to be an eye witness of the autograph.
