Been going to a local antique street fair each year for the past 20+ years and turned these 2 single original scarp book pages up - featuring 1888 scrapps of both teams. now the work beings on removing them off the old brittle pages. Stuff still turns up now and then.

Nice find Good luck with removal. You have the one Detroit head to practice with but if it soaks off they should all come away easily. Be patient with drying.
I wouldn't even bother to soak, odds are it will not go well and these display wonderfully as the day someone did it 100+ years ago. The purist will appreciate them as they are.

I tend to agree with Scott that they present well as is. I would frame them just like they are.

Nice find.
Similar to an old chest I found with some Detroit Scrapps (or as Al at LOTG figured out, H. D. Smith & Co Baseball Gum Die-Cuts). Easier call in my case, I was certainly going to leave them as found.

I seem to recall someone on here a decade plus back soaking a Scrapp off a scrapbook page and it was a disaster. I would not soak them off...if you have to have them off consult a professional.
You could rectangularly cut them out and have them graded authentic-- if you wanted.
Scraps were designed to be pasted into albums, so, unlike if they were Topps or Goudeys, they are in their natural and intended state. And, of course, their backs are blank anyway.

From what I have seen over the many years. These 1888 scrapps, majority are found in Victorian period scrapbooks. They are mounted onto the albums pages either by using water/flour homemade paste method or wood glue. If they are glued in using the homemade glue they soak off without issue and with no stains.
Typically these are glue in using the wood glue method and leaves a stain on back and sometimes soaks through to the front and leave a light stain on front.
If done right by taking the time these shouldn’t be an issue to remove off the page. Since these are attached to the page using wood glue...I am have them professionally removed. Best way to tell what the task will be. Is to start with the one that is damaged “ the players head” and go from there.

If your primary goal is to make money, then yeah I guess you could have them removed and then graded although you’ll get dinged on the glue residue.
If however the goal is to enjoy them in the current state (for which they were intended) then keep as is, have it conserved and then framed.
My 2 cents is that they look fantastic as is.

I do collect 19 th century and early 20 th baseball cards, 19 th century baseball related tradecards and original baseball negatives and photographs. Been collection for many years now.
The reason them to be soaked off will be used for upgrades and there sold off to other collectors.

1 reason the St Louis are going to be soaked off is:
I need the comisky and Gleason for my Black Sox collection and the others used for upgrades.
Been bidding on them several times when they come up and unable to win them.
So this task is now complete and crossed off my list.
The reason the Detroit will be soaked off will be used for upgrades.
All the others will available for sale in the near future to other collectors.
NOTE:
Yes I do have a plan in place and a reason for removing these off the brittle, fragile falling apart thin 19 th c paper album page.
