I don't really know how rare this is, but being a Ted Williams fan, I had to get it.

That V351 is my favorite too--I wondered if I'd find someone on the board who could top my SGC Ex+ example, as anyone who has one knows this card is far beyond extremely tough! In terms of future appreciation, it is what we would call in the street racing world a "sleeper," meaning it's just sitting there in the "weeds," waiting to pounce on the unsuspecting. Wait until the collecting body at large becomes aware of what is by far Ted's rarest (and a very attractive) rookie. I wouldn't trade it for any other card in the hobby.

Best of luck in your collecting,

Larry

Here's the rare #68 card (Ted signs for 1959) in my set. Is this 4+ card panel unique ? Or, has anyone else seen an original uncut 1959 Fleer sheet (or partial sheet) ?

A bit of trivia here...… in 1952, Ted took flight training at the Willow Grove Naval Air Base, which is only a 20-minute drive from my house.

Here is a 1970 Ted Williams - Boston Red Sox, sillisculpt figure by Russ & Wallace Berrie. For those that may not be familiar with these, during the 1960's and 1970's, sillisculpt figures by the Berries and by Paula were quite popular - hundreds of different ones were produced. Although Ted Williams' name is not stated anywhere on this figure, surely it was intended to represent Ted Williams because of the "B" on the baseball cap and the number "9" on the back of the figure's shirt.

Shameless plug: I have a another example of this sillisculpt that I will be listing on eBay this weekend. Unfortunately, its bat has broken off and disappeared, but could be replaced with a similar size bat from a toy baseball figure.

Thought I would post this as these are confused often (even by the TPGs; I have a 1941 encased by BVG that is listed as a 1940 on the flip).

The Boston Red Sox often used the same photos for their team Photo Packs. These two below represent the 1940 and 1941 Boston Photo Pack Ted Williams. The KEY difference between the two are the size of the signature; 1940 being a small signature (true for the entire pack of 25 players) and the 1941 being a large signature (also true for the entire pack).

Harford20

As you can tell, I love variations. Here are a few from the 1950 R423 Strip cards of Ted Williams. Each is a complete strip, with a back color variation. Orange, Green, Purple and Navy Blue are shown. Many collectors (and TPGs) refuse to acknowledge that a Navy blue back variation exists. The strip has a slightly more glossy surface, does not have perforations between cards, and the player sequence is completely different.

Sorry the orange and green photos are blurry; these are entombed in PSA holders that don't fit my scanner very well.

Super late to the thread but I'm such a big Ted fan I had to comment. Interesting note - PSA will slab and grade the following rare Ted items that were pictured here:

- whole/entire uncut color backed strips
- Topps pin boxes w Ted on cover
- Ted Jimmy Fund card

It's such an odd group of things they will slab in his case but I think they stretch a bit on legends. In other news - this is the first I've ever seen of this Menko which actually has Ted on the front and writing about him.

I bought this Ted Williams bat from former A's pitcher Matt Keough. Matt's father, Marty Keough, was friend's with Ted while he played on the Red Sox. The dates aren't exactly clear, but somewhere between 1958-60 Matt participated in a game as the Red Sox's bat boy. There are multiple pictures with Ted and Matt with a nice letter from Ted on how to become a professional baseball player.

Here are a few of my favorites from the early days:

Today, a few Jimmy Fund Ted Williams membership cards. Start with the

1. Common 1959 (and the common "high-number" variation which has a different cropped photo and different ink on the back)

2. The Uncommon 1960 with the vertical Ted

3. The HTF 1956, 1957 and 1958

4. Finally, the "darn-near-impossible" 1963, 1971, 1972

Still two that I know of (1965 and 1967) that I do not own. Anybody have other years?

It is too bad that Billy DePalma is not on this site. He is the person who advertised for years in the back of SCD looking for rare Williams items. He was pretty nice when I met him and he worked for the Mass Turnpike Authority as a toll taker though the toll takers no longer exist. Even Ted liked him. They would have these real estate presentations at hotels in the Boston area for that development in Florida where he lived. I believe it was Islamorada. The ads would be in the Boston papers and occasionally there would be a little note that he would be appearing. It was a good chance to get something signed by him. I went to one near my house and during the presentation he came out into the hallway and saw Billy. The first words out of his mouth - "Billy, what have you got for me to sign." He then signed everything he had and then signed for me and a friend.

1938 Ted Williams photo from his time with the Minneapolis Millers. Love this image. Sold in RMY Auction in June 2015 for about $8,800. I have no idea who owns it, but the image is so cool that I had to share it.
