I'm not much into the post-war stuff. But, I like to pick up a few cards of the players I follow. I was noticing that several patch autographed cards contain letters that aren't even in the players name. For example, I was trying to grab a nice Christian McCaffrey auto patch card and the patch was a letter "K". I looked at every angle, every possibility and it's definitely a K. That being said, I'm losing faith that any of this game-worn patch stuff is even authentic. Did McCaffrey wear Luke Kuechly's jersey for a game?

Has anyone else noticed this?

Some of the sets Upper Deck puts "Lettermen" sets together with patches that spell out things that are not the players name, like their team. Most of those are "player worn" not "game worn" or just "memorabilia."
Player worn means that it was put on and taken off for the express reason to be cut up and put into cards.

For example, this Ramik Wilson card has the following letters for sale on COMC: U, D, O, and G. All of those are in the team name "BULLDOGS" and he played for the University of Georgia.

On the back it says it is a "Manufactured Patch" which means it was not even worn; the COA on the back is only certifying the autograph as authentic. Post a picture of the card you're talking about, but it's probably similar to this.

Panini has been caught using fake "game-worn" items in boxes of cards that cost thousands. Look up Russell Wilson Immaculate on Google. Donruss also accidentally swapped Willie Nelson bandana memorabilia pieces for Willie Mays pieces in their cards.

Years ago, when I used to buy game used cards, I used to hate it when I would buy a card that was called a game used card on eBay and then when I got it in hand I would read "Event Worn" on the back. It just made the card seem cheap to me and it would lose all of it's appeal to me. I can't bring myself to sell them now so I'm stuck with them.

Ugh, "National Treasure" is supposed to be premium. Sad that they don't even put game worn stuff in their top tier rookies

All early release sets are event worn and usually from the rookie premiere event. Not to state the obvious, but you can't have game worn in a true rookie release unless it's a college jersey.

I'd take mixed up swatches . . . at least there's a story to it.

The absolute worst . . . a couple years ago I opened a Topps Allen & Ginter pack to get a Johnny Damon, travel day worn shirt swatch. A freaking piece of the sports shirt he supposedly wore while flying! Barely a step up from a used toilet paper swatch. Up until then I liked the A&G sets. That pretty much ended it for me.
