View Full Version : Does Anyone Else Cringe Just A Little Bit? - T201 & T202

I realize they were made to be folded but I always cringe a little when I see the T201s and T202s folded. It seems it will make them an infinitesimal lesser condition when done?

I think the fact that they were folded helped preserve the corners on a lot of the t202s. If they were stored folded up way back when, the outer corners would be safely tucked into the center of the card. I bought some not long ago like this that came from a hoard overseas. They graded rather well. The fold areas had some wear, but the corners were beautiful.

That is kind of my thought :). They had to bend all of them!! And off topic a little bit but that seller has some really, really nice small cents. Always loved collecting those over the years though I don't have any now.

I cringe a little when I see them folded, but even worse when I see T202 panels cut off.

Once you get them, open up, put in cardsaver and leave them be. If/when time to , show 'em just like that.

I apologize in advance if this disturbing photo causes anyone to seek grief counseling.

Double folders bother me a lot less than triple folders. With the stock being so much lighter they fold with a LOT less damage,

I imagine most of the T201 cards that are seen folded in this (and other) seller's listings were already in that bent over condition before scanning, so I doesn't bother me. If the card were in crispy new shape and the seller wanted to show potential buyers what it would look like when folded, well then...ouch.

I'm all about using things for which they were intended. I let my 8 yr old flip my '37 Goudey Thum Movies.....she thinks they're the coolest things in my collection.

Hey Leon

Paraphrasing Kenny Rodgers......"You got to know when to hold 'em, and know when to fold 'em" :)

No question these are sensitive issues and in many cases they show heavy wear at the folds. In some cases when I have purchased these cards when folded - the fold tends to protect the colors and surface. I enjoy these issues, but you always need to look at them closely - so my answer was "maybe"

This x 100.

I love the T202s.

I have a PSA graded T201 that was slabbed with the card folded in half. I couldn't believe it when I first saw it.

That is funny. What grade is it?

I blocked the bar code and cert number so that PSA won't remove it from their directory of cards. Just a little paranoid I guess. I thought it was just funny as hell to see this so I picked it off of ebay many years ago.

Off topic - I prefer SGC because of the packaging and I saw so much crap with PSA grading. Time for another mention of the Hall collection of PSA graded T206 cards (still makes me cringe) ..... Not to say that SGC doesn't make errors but cards just look really nice with the black border. Got to mention this - the one thing I liked about the GAI packaging was that they put that little tab at the top of the slab and you could pick out the card from a box without having to look at the front of each card in the box to find the card. I sure with PSA and SGC would do that.

Wow Fred, that's amazing that PSA would slab a T201 folded like that. I don't like when cards are so loose in a PSA slab either. I like that they fit nice and tight in SGC holders. And I also liked the GAI label on the top of the slab. That was just cool.

Perhaps the card is glued into the folded position. We may never see the top half of Chief Bender.

I figure if it was glued together the grade would have been a "1" rather than a "4". Either that or the grader didn't know what it was.... :p

About 10 years ago, I purchased my first T201. I wanted to see what the card looked like folded, so I made images of the front and back of the card with a copy machine and replicated the process with the new images.
