Once you get your ‘57 Brooksie in a SGC case I’d love to see a picture of your autographed run all together! :D

Abosolutely. I’m not up to your level of Brooks fandom (who is lol). But thinking of getting a photo signed and then surrounding it with the cards. Need to design something. I could just put them in a nice display case but feel I’m not doing it justice.

Brian-- very nice. I have not pursued the line up variants but I have a full set of the captains and have pursued the pose variations ( Mantle/ F Robinson/ M Alou / Clemente

I think Larry may have had all the line up variations but not sure if that is one of the sets he is selling with REA.

Did you pursue the 66 Mays Punch Out in REA ? I ended up with the Stargell.

May I say that it's nice to see some less than perfectly-centered pickups. Unless a card is miscut, I have never really thought that some "average" centered cards look that bad at all. For some sets in the late 60's and early 70's, I think there were actually more OC cards produced that decently centered ones.

I collect these, just good to see I'm not alone. :D

I stumbled across this one recently on the ebays by happenstance. Being of Hungarian descent myself, I've always had a soft spot for Mr. Hrabosky. And when I saw that he actually signed this one as "The Mad Hungarian," I just had to have it.

I bought this Mantle during the eBay 20% off promotion. The seller had it priced a little high but the discount made it a pretty good deal. I bought one of these a couple months ago but this one is centered much better.

Nice. I've always had a soft spot for the '55 Bowman Feller because it was one of the vintage star cards I had as a kid in the 80's. The copy I have now is in a lot better shape than the one I had as a kid, and I probably spent a good deal less on it. Rapid Robert was in the twilight of his career, but did if I recall pitch a one-hitter in 1955.

Was at Guaranteed Rate Field watching Indians-White Sox on Wednesday, saw Minnie's number retired in the rafters during the game, and for some reason thought of upgrading this card. Used eBay app, found this, and put in a bid. I probably bid too high, but I won it and I love the card as it's a really nice upgrade from my previous version

Still working on my Dave Winfield collection. This one was perfect until I accidentally dinged the corner when loading it, what a knucklehead I am. And I just love the 56 Topps set so much. I keep plugging away at it, adding stars whenever I find one for a good price. Really like this Enos card.

In today’s mail from eBayland...a card I have wanted for a very long time, since I was a kid and first got into the old Dodgers. Back then I considered this unattainable, probably because of the whole “last card in the set” hype. The truth of course is that unless you are looking for a high end copy, this card is still pretty reasonable. This will go nice alongside the ‘55 Jackie I picked up last year.

Picked this up in last week's Sirius Auction and arrived today. Had to negotiate with the home accounting office:) to cover the difference until I sell some things to pay it back. Just need to upgrade my 1956 PSA 6 to PSA 7 and I will have all Clemente's primary Topps issued cards @ PSA 7 or better. The 1955 PSA 6 OC I had is up for sale to help cover the gap and the 1956 PSA 6 is, as well as, a German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel signed photo on Net54.

That Brooksie is a tough one - Nice version of that card. It's the second most expensive Topps regular issue card after his 57 (for me when doing the autograph run)- at least its a nice looking card so even though you have to pay a premium for the high number its sharp looking.

Thanks. I think I got a bit of a deal buying this in an SGC slab. The centering (this at least passes as decent for the issue) doesn’t bother me, and I think ‘67 high numbers in PSA still carry a premium.

Either way very happy with the card. [emoji4]

I always liked Al as a pitcher, but puzzled about his monikering himself as "Hungarian," since his surname seems to me to be closer to Ukrainian. But, eastern European borders being what they were for more than a century or two, I guess anyone in this country can identify with any country they wish to regardless of linguistic categorizations.;)

Perhaps he's Hungarian on his mother's side.

Yeah, quite possibly, but what seems more likely to me is a similar misapprehension in other immigrant families from eastern Europe. At the end of the 19th century, a lot of small countries were subsumed under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and their citizens, regardless of actual ethnicity, were all lumped together as "Austro-Hungarians." As a kid, I had the false notion that my grandfather was "Hungarian," and it wasn't until well into adulthood that I learned from research he was a Ukrainian speaking Rusyn from another part of the "Empire." "Hrabosky" is from an eastern slavic root word, "hrab-," meaning "brave" or "related to brave," whereas the Hungarian language is Finno-Ugric and not slavic. I apologize for the pedantry and would not have hijacked the thread if June were not now over.:o
