Name the pitcher who had 5 Top 5 Cy Young Award Finishes, 4 top 10 MVP finishes yet fell off the HOF ballot in his first year of eligibility.

In case there's two or more guys who meet that criteria, the answer also had 4 seasons with as many or more intentional walks than unintentional walks!

Winner will receive a raw, gradable (will receive a number) T206 of my choosing, may give winner a couple to choose from.

I am guessing must be an AL guy or relief pitcher because of the intentional walks. Jimmy Key?

Dan Quisenberry? I know he had a lot of close calls on both awards, just not sure when he dropped off the ballot.

Edited to add stat: Quiz had more top 5 CY finishes (5, including 4 times in the top 3) than he had All-Star appearances (3).

Quis doesn't meet the IBB>UIBB - but it has to be a reliever.

Sure he does. 1979, 1980, 1981, and 1986. And then again in 1989 and 1990 for good measure.

You're right, Glen---I was separating the two, not including the IBBs in the total BBs...duh!

The correct answer has to be Quisenberry and Peter got it right first!

It’s happened at least once before. It used to be that if a player didn’t get enough votes he’d be dropped from subsequent ballots. Ron Santo was dropped after the 1980 vote (though reinstated a few years later) but was voted in later by the vereran’s committee.

It has to be Quisenberry. I thought maybe Kent Tekulve, but Quis makes more sense. :)

Hi Scott --
I just returned from a trip this week and found that Mr. Phillippe had arrived and was in my office, waiting to be added to my collection.

Thank you!

Glad you got the Deacon safe and sound. Trying to come up with a killer, un-google-able question with a N172 as a prize!

PS cool stuff in your office, but is that really a 1988 Donruss box on top of the cabinet???
