View Full Version : Original collection I found in a house I recently purchased in Pennsylvania
There was a door in a closet in one of the upstairs bedrooms that opened into a storage area. It's kind of like an attic but not...lol crawl space?
There were 27 w516 strip cards I believe 4 of them were boxers
86 t206 cards most of them had sweet caporal backs
2 had base ball gum John h. Dockman
1 American Carmel co
2 Piedmont backs
1 polar bear
3 t05 cards gold borders poor condition
12 center pictures of I think they are Hassan triple fold, only 3 cards that I believe go to the triple fold cards but I haven't had time to go through center pictures
19 t227 cards all miners extra backs
43 t219 boxing pugilist cards 1 has Hassan back the rest are miners extra
39 miners extra heroes of history
3 miners extra men and women of history
45 miners extra men of history
104 American Carmel company e123 cards
Also a booklet from P Goldsmith sons co. From 1921 or 22 it talks about the world series in 1921 and how Babe Ruth was a let down only hitting .118 also has images of players and teams that use their uniforms and gloves.
I welcome input/ corrections, I've only been able to research on and off for a few weeks.
I will post the strip cards first. I'll try to post the rest as I get time.

I think it's safe to assume, the original owner was a Miners Extra smoker !!!
T219 ME are so much more rare than basic Hassan, nice.

Unfortunately the kid signed his name to several of these early ones as Edward or his intials E.K.
Some more info on the person as I have found other papers on "Edward, he was born in 1902 graduated high school in 1921.
He became a policeman (found pictures, patches and other materials) the Pennsylvania State motor police.
Also a document (scroll) showing he became a Master Mason "Scottish rite"
I thought it was a neat tid bit.

I meant the whole find, not the actress cards :) and it would have to be in a less expensive region in PA like coal country.

The strip cards are W516, except for the one identified as Pep Young with card # 107 (actually it is Hall of Famer Ross Youngs), which is from the W514 set. Your two Dockman cards are indeed from the E92 set, and the J.T. Meyers American Caramel card is actually from the E91B set, not the E90-1 set which I guessed before.
By the way, the Pep Young W516 card you have does not depict Hall of Famer Ross Youngs, but another player who was nicknamed "Pep" Young.

The final 20 all are miners extra backs with all but one has Edwards signature on them the other has a number written on it.

The Al Kaufman is a T218 Series of Champion Athletes and Prize Fighters card the rest are T219s. The numbers on the front of the cards are just part of the design (round in the boxing match) and not the card numbers. Both sets used the same artwork on different card sizes.
Nice Abe Attell, my T218 has a crease from top to bottom right through Abe.

Here is a group photo of the t206 cards found. Originally I thought it was 86 but I had counted the 3 t205 cards, 2 dockman, and the American Carmel card they are in the upper right corner.

I would think it would be out of houses, not people. I.e. how many old houses have hidden collections that get found by a collector? For all those things to align have got to be lottery odds.

OK there are 125 million houses in the US. Again 1 in a million leads to 125 "finds" You've been here a while you know in just the last few years there have been several house finds that dwarf this one, and numerous more that compare, so I don't understand your apparent surprise.

There are not 125M houses in the US, there are 125M houseHOLDS, which include apartments, new construction and modern homes, the vast majority built in the last half century to meet the demand of the growing population. The OP, as I understand it, believes this is the home of the original collector, dating the house to pre-1920. Yes there are still homes that age, particularly in the NE, but the number of them left is relatively low...my guess would be less than 10 million. Then how many of those have a 100 year old hidden baseball card collection in them that has gone unfound by x number of home owners over a century only to magically be discovered by a card collector? So yes, I am a bit surprised by, as you pointed out, the frequency of these finds.
Again, I don't know the OP and have no reason not to believe his story, but I think the odds are a lot lower than you make them out to be.
I've never been a collector, I just became the owner of another's collection.
I joined this forum to figure out what these cards were. I'm very thankful for the information I've been provided and offered by several. Not insinuating that this story is bogus, but what are the odds of a card collector making a find like this? They seem astronomical to me.

It will be fun to watch these go to auction. I also think there are many more finds out there waiting to happen. There will be finds for years to come. Then there won't be anymore eventually, but not in our lifetimes. :)

Perhaps someday in the almost-distant future, some grandkids will be going through an attic, closet or what not and stumble upon a dusty old box. Inside, their find will be... cards in slabs.
