I can now move on with my life. Finally picked up the Ruth card, which oddly enough is the MOST common card in the entire set. But obviously, not one of the least expensive. The 6.18 rating took some effort to accomplish, as I am one of limited financial means, but apparently an enormous amount of patience.... I've parted with a lot of my personal collection here and there, as opposed to accumulating, but this set somehow stayed near and dear to me for some reason.

I guess the only highlights worth noting would be that 15 are the highest PSA graded, included two of the short prints, Seibold and Haines. My final comment of note is that I can honestly say after having handled dozens and dozens of graded Kashins, that there is NO rhyme or reason as to how they get graded. I've upgraded 5's to 7's and the 5's looked far better, it really is a very subjective type card to have graded.

The offerings out there seem to be getting slimmer and slimmer, probably because people like me stashing them away in registry sets !!

How many in the set? How long did it take? Best story around a pick up? Now what?

Really great John! What a neat set

...are the 5'' x 7'' 's, the glossy photos , considered to be a sub-set of the "1929 Kashin ? Or a separate set ?

Nice job! It's hard to believe that you got the 4 short prints before you got Ruth. I've been working on this set for years (I'm at 90+) in mostly raw condition so I know how hard it is to finish. Congrats!

I love the Kashin set. You are correct about patience. A 6.18 is a worthy effort indeed!!!

Scratch that. I tried to upload from my phone. Those images are horrendous. Try again later from my desktop ... I need a margarita, or two, right now

Ruth is by far the most plentiful in the set, not only because more people saved them, but because he was included in all four groups of 25 cards. Maybe somebody can post a picture of one of the four colored boxes which contain printed checklists of the cards in that box. Ruth is in all four lists! So there are probably three times more of his card in existence than any other player. Doesn’t make him cheap though.

Congrats John!

In response to Tim ... quote taken off an internet article put out by justcollect

“As one story has it, Kashin's were released initially in a format that provided 100 different cards, but they apparently found them difficult to sell. They subsequently released 4 different retail boxes each containing 25 cards and printed with a specific color variation (Orange, Blue, Coral and Canary) and they added Babe Ruth, the most popular player in baseball, to the set and included him in each of the four retail boxes. To make room for Ruth in each of the boxes, Kashin removed four players from the issue and while they were issued previously, they became shortprints and did not make the checklists included on the reverse of each of the 4 retail boxes. The four players: Bump Hadley, Jesse Haines, Harry Seibold, and Phil Todt were replaced with Babe Ruth.”

If I attached this link properly, it takes you to an image of the box and its checklist for each box color variation..... You will see the Hadley, Todt, Haines, and Seiboldt are no longer on the checklists
