OK...I'm sure some of you are sick of PSA. They are slow. Take forever tog rade your cards. Yadda yadda. I still like them solely because of the resale value. That being said,.....

Special #1 - Cards valued over $100 but under $500. $17 per card. 10 card Minimum. I only have 2. I'm looking for 8 more. These are for higher valued cards, but not too high. I can give references.

Special #2 - Bulk $7 per card. No age limit. Must be standard or tall boys (no T3's). To get the special, we need 100 cards. I have 50 myself. So looking a few others.

That's it. Those that subbed with me before know the deal. If you can excuse all the crap going on, we might can make this work again. Let me know.

Hi, Bobby,

I think I have about 10 cards for the regular and 3 cards for the premium service (need to confirm this), but was just going to inquire about a grading submission. I'm in.

Thanks,

You can't sub anything bigger than 3 1/2" x 5 1/ 6"

For those that have subbed with me before...the prices are what PSA charges plus $1 per card to cover shipping to and from California. Include a slip of paper that states

#1) What the card is and the value you assign to it. This is what PSA pays you back should they damage the card.

#2) You real name and your return shipping address

#3) Your Net54 handle....that is how I contact you during the process

#4) You CAN include payment if you like.....if not, you can paypal me upon receipt of the cards.

The cards should be in CS1's....if not, I can supply you with some, but they are about a .25 each....they are the safest way to transport cards.

Deadline is April 23rd. The bulk special obviously has no deadline, but the expensive card special does....so if that happens, that needs to be by the end of the month.

bobbyw8469
04-03-2018, 10:51 AM
PS - Once the cards are complete, you are responsible for shipping back to you. The price varies, depending on the weight of the slabs, whether I can go First Class or it has to go Priority, and if you need extra insurance on the cards. A lot of people have subbed with me...it's pretty painless....

Not for bulk...the bulk can be ANY years!! I'm tired of wating for PSA to have a POST 1956 special...the bulk sub eliminates us having to wait for one.

They can be cards that came signed (think shiny upper deck stuff where they signed on the card)....however, if the card didn't NORMALLY come signed (think 1954 Hank Aaron rookie, 1952 Topps, etc), then they can't be sent in.

The Aaron rookie would have to fall under the PSA/DNA form...it's handled differently than just grading cards. They would grade the card (if desired) and then grade the autograph (if desired). Or just authenticate one only (or both)...make sense?

100%

I've done 3 submissions with Bobby and the first 2 completed with the third one still in process. Aside from PSA tardiness, all has been smooth and easy.....and Bobby does a great job managing these adventures.

Kudos to him, and no worries from me.

It does thank you. One more follow up. I see a few options. What is recommended? Auto and sig graded, one or other? Is only a 9 or 10 grade card a good option for both auto and card to grade, and authentic and auto grade for most other lower grade cards? I am sure each case is unique, but what is the standard.

There is no standard...it's all about personal preference. Some people swear by authenticating only....if it's newer stuff, I would probably just have the card authentic and a grade on the auto only. But it's 100% personal preference.

Hey Bobby,

(BTW, let me jump on the Bobby train for a moment. I was a part of his bulk submission last fall and he was unbelievably organized and on top of everything. He answered all questions/concerns in a straightforward manner--in other words, no BS-- and the whole process went as smoothly as possible. He truly goes waaaaaaay out of his way to help all of us out and make these efforts successful. I big-time tip my hat to him.)

Can you give us a little statement about value with regards to the $17 special? As you said, it's about how much PSA would refund you if they damage your cards, but how far can that be stretched? Maybe try to sum it up as clearly as possible from your perspective? I am certain that there are quite a few people like me out there who are confused by the parameters of the deal. For instance, if someone has a Mantle card that would clearly be 'worth' more than $500 after it is graded, could they still submit it and write down the value as $499? I guess the real question here is, how far can one go in sort of trying to buck the system?

And a random question about two cards: Would a 1963 Fleer Checklist and a 1967 Topps #128, Ed Spiezio with part of his name missing on front, fit into the cheaper category, or would they have to be submitted at the $17 level? There always seems to be a lot of gray area with these types of things.

Thanks!!

Darren...you can fudge a little....but do you REALLY want to be reimbursed "only" $500 if you have a $3,000 Mantle?? My best advice is to be realistic in what it is worth....For example..I'm submitting a Rose rookie. It might be worth $600....but DEFINITELY worth $500....I'm submitting it at $500. You can fudge, but I would only fudge what you are comfortable with. No $3,000 Mantles....a $600 or $700 is probably OK. As far as the last two, I'm not familiar with them, but I wouldn't think either one is worth more than $100, so they can go bulk.

Pack pulled autograph cards are permitted under the bulk system, as long as they are from 1998-present. Pre-1998 and "in person" or "through the mail" autographed cards have to be submitted through PSA/DNA and are not eligible for bulk grading.
If you submit an auto card from Topps or UD or whatever, they will only grade the card, not both the card and auto.

Put me in for at least 20 at the bulk level.

I'm not familiar with double headers. What is the size? They can't be bigger than 3 1/2 x 5 1/6.....if they are smaller than that, they can go.

As far as how long?? I don't work for PSA...I cant speak for them. For a frame of reference, the last sub took around 5 months. Hell, they are taking over a month just to log cards, and the clock doesn't start until they log them in. Patience is a must in dealing with these guys. They have gotten painstakingly slow.

payPal upon receipt is preferred so I can keep up with what's what...when I get it in advance it's harder to keep up with....as for value, assign it what you think it is worth if it is real. Use Ebay completed listings as a guide (ie, PSA 3, SGC 3, etc)

Guys....PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE try to make this easy on me. Vague forms with the cards ARE NOT the way to go. Unless it is 1952-1970, I am NOT the expert. T206's with all their variations, and ESPECIALLY the modern stuff where Jeter has 10,383 rookie card take too much work on my part. The plainer you make what you have, the easier everything is. It is also $7 per card PLUS $1.00 per card to cover shipping to and from California. I do not make one copper penny on shipping....it really does cost a quite a bit, especially the shipping back from PSA to me, as the slabs are quite heavy.

You have to be realistic...getting a '10' is NOT realistic...so treat is as a '9' or so...if it DOES come back a '10', I still don't think that is enough money to warrant an upcharge...usually they reserve that for the big boys (think Mantle rookie, Jordan rookie, etc) where a PSA 10 vs a 9 can be an increase of $20k or more.....

While we are talking about this, I have cards in BGS 9.5 holders I want to crack out swap over to PSA. They range in eBay value from 600-900, but if they do grade 10 probably increase a couple hundred each. Is that close enough to get in the under $500 category with PSA? Thanks for any knowledge.

Probably, especially if they're worth significantly less than that raw. I won't say it's 100%, but twice I've had submissions under the bulk rate (less than $100) that came back as high grade low pops worth around $1000 each and didn't get asked to pay extra. Based on that, it isn't at all strict, and as Bobby mentioned, it's more for the big boys. People spend way too much time worrying about the valuation levels. It's almost entirely for insurance purposes.

Did you read the thread where the member bumped him Jim Brown rookie from an '8' to an '8.5'? They asked him to pay extra. Think of it like this....if they ask you to pay extra, it's akin to you winning the lottery. Gladly pay the extra. The cards you are describing though, I think you are OK.

I have nothing to be impatient about! This whole process so far has been super easy. From me reading this thread to you having cards in hand was just a few days. I'm glad I found this thread when I did. I've been meaning to submit cards for months now, but just haven't gotten off my behind to do it. This thread lit the fire, and I even got to throw in some cards for fun since the bulk price is so low :)

I think this sub will pop before the World Series ends, but I’m not putting any money on it. I think it will pop after the Marlins are mathematically eliminated and I would consider a wager if somebody thinks it will pop sooner.

I would imagine that one of the perks of organizing these subs is handling the wide variety of cards that we send you. I remember looking at the list when the October sub popped wondering what some of those cards were. Certainly far off my radar but I think it’s great to see what other people are passionate about. I’ve sent a couple this month you’ve probably never handled. Enjoy and thanks again for pulling this together. I’m already thinking about what I can send in next time.

Brian,

I'll take the Marlins pre/post bet. The cards will post on the PSA website prior to the Marlins being eliminated from post season. I'll wager a stack of 25 uninspiring Sportcaster cards against anything you feel is fair.

It's OK Gary.....I don't mind.....you are giving relevant info about YOUR order. Kinda like sharing comps on houses that sell in the same neighborhood. I have heard some bragging about how fast their subs have popped and others lamenting the fact at how slow they are. There appears to be no rhyme or reason. Honestly, I would be shocked if a big 400+ card order WAS NOT late!

I agree it’s too soon. But I find it to be an odd coincidence that two of the cards sBut blotted which were ZERO POP cards in the PSA pop report now show up. I suppose somebody else could have submitted the same T222 actress/athlete cards. But that seems like a long shot. Especially since no others appeared last week.

I’m prepared to wait another 4-6 months on these. But scratch my head at the pop report changes.

If I’m doing the math right the big boy sub popped on day 51 (stated 30 day turn).

Monday is day 52 for the bulk sub
Marlins magic number is at 44 at the start of play Monday. Marlins get a bit of a break this week because both Atlanta and Philly have struggled and Miami is now closer to the division lead than the second wild card slot.

FWIW Baltimore’s magic number is 27. Right around the over under for the number of prospects they will acquire this month as they trade everything of value (ie NOT Chris Davis, Mark Trumbo, Alex Cobb, Darrin O’Day or Andrew Cashner).

I predict poppage the week of Aug 27th!

If poppage is early that week you may win the wager. But it’s getting close.

Today is day 67 (or 62 if you don’t count National Week.

Marlins stopped the bleeding a bit over the weekend. Magic Number is currently 19.

FYI, the Orioles Magic Number is down to 2. They could become the first team mathematically eliminated in 2018 as soon as tonight.

BleedinBlue
08-26-2018, 06:10 PM
Monday is day 67. Wondo predicted poppage this week so let’s see.

Marlins had a bit of a rough week. Magic Number is down to 11 so mathematical elimination is possible over the Labor Day weekend. Most likely their fate lingers into next week but the end is clearly in sight for the Fish. However their fate has been better than both the Orioles and Royals who are already eliminated before the rosters expand.

Getting close one way or the other here.

BleedinBlue
09-02-2018, 10:51 PM
I know Monday is a holiday but elimination is imminent. Marlins are running out of time quickly. Officially their magic number now stands at 4. But digging deeper it’s 2 given the number of games left to be played between Philadelphia and Atlanta and the games left in the NL west between Colorado, Arizona and LA. So, Labor Day could be the final nail in the coffin for the Marlins.

Marlins are alive. Barely.

Today could be their elimination day.
Marlins Magic Number for the NL East title is 1. A win by either Philadelphia or Atlanta or a Marlins Loss mathematically eliminates Miami from the division race given the 7 remaining games between Philadelphia and Atlanta.

Marlins are mathematically eliminated from the Wild Card Race due to the 4 remaining games between STL and the Los Angeles Dodgers plus the 7 remaining games between Arizona and Colorado.

Wondo, would you be open to putting your wagered cards up on the AUCTION thread and donating the proceeds to Safe Haven Furever?

Sure - I'll even throw in some extras. Look for them this week..........great idea!

Today is day 77 (or 72 depending on whether you count National Week).

The Marlins are eliminated in the NL, along with San Diego and Cincinnati
In the AL Toronto, Baltimore, Kansas City, Texas, Detroit and Chicago White Sox have all been eliminated before PSA could complete this submission.

Three more weeks in the regular season. Will this sub pop before the playoffs start?

Subs don't pop on 54. Only on CU.

It will be soon...it will probably be a bulk one....the "normal" monthly specials have just not been that good. There is really no incentive for them to be. The bulk specials, can be ANY year...the only stipulation is the cards must be $100 or less.

Additional stipulations for bulk submissions: no coins, oversized cards, no IP )in person) or TTM (through the mail) autographed cards, and no autographed pack-inserted cards from before 1998. Those all would have to be separate submissions. Oversized are cards that do not fit in their tallboy holders.

Anybody want to take my wager that the NY Knicks get eliminated before the next sub pops?

Still nothing?

2 teams have clinched post season births. 11 have been eliminated. Two weeks to go in the regular season.

Wondo agreed to put his losing wager up for auction in the Auction Thread will all proceeds going to Safe Haven Furever. He even upped the offering for the cause. Check it out and support a good cause while getting some vintage cards in return.

Popped on Day 85 (or 80).

My submission was less than stellar. But I always look forward to seeing what everybody else submitted and from the size of this sub the variety should be impressive.

In grades or cards submitted? Mine aren't showing up in the pop report yet. Looking forward to moving higher up the Mantle Master set registry rankings... ;-)

What I submitted. Nothing will earn a high grade. Just a lot of cards filling out sets

I have very high hopes for a couple. I think the Topps Stamps Mantle/Bruton panel is in super sharp shape.

The two 1965 OPC #134 were listed by Dean's as EX, but I'm hoping one gets a 6.5 and the other a 6.

One of the crazier ones saw me getting a PSA 4 for this one.....thrilled to say the least.

Crack em out before sending them in!

This is upsetting. These are T222 athletes and Photoplay cards. PSA has graded these including one I included in the big boy sub. Any idea why these were not graded. These were one of my primary reasons for sending this group.

Otherwise, I’m quite pleased.

4-5 cards crossed or regraded with upside:

T222 Breshnahan got a PSA A this time. They refused to grade it before
T222 Liobert PSA 2 was SGC AUTH
T222 Magee PSA 3MC was SGC AUTH
T222 Murray PSA 2MC was SGC AUTH
They all deserved number grades in my opinion. I think SGC got it wrong before

And 1941 Goudey Ott got a PSA 3. Was a PSA 4MK. I could never find the mark. Guess PSA couldn’t find it again either.

The two Jell-O Mantles I got in a lot on eBay described only as Post Cereal cards for like $80. So even at Authentic (which I knew they would grade), they were worth sending in. The Bazooka McCovey panel I bought in Cooperstown and hand-cut myself. All the other hand-cuts I've done topped out at 6s. So this one is a nice surprise. Considered cutting the panel apart to the three cards, but looks like I made the right decision to send it as one.
I expected better grades on almost all the Mantles I submitted. Argh. Appreciate the work you're putting in, Bobby.

Edit: Just noticed the T51 Bowdoin 2nd Ed was typed in as a pack. I will probably have to send that back as a mechanical error in order to add it to my set.

Congrats on the grades, guys! Do you remember the original stated turn time on the special? I read theough the first 10 pages and couldn’t find it but did read something about an over/under around Halloween.

The reason I ask is because I have a 50-Day Bulk in Newport Beach right now and depending on what they consider business days should be around day 40-45 currently. I’m just trying to manage my own expectations. Thanks in advance.

LOL....I predicted Halloween. PSA basically states they guarantee nothing. It is their sandbox. We are lucky they are allowing us to play in it.

It was probably right before we submitted that the service level for bulk was 45 projected business days after logging. I think ours was submitted at 65 expected business days.
I sent in a 119 card bulk special in July and it already popped. So it's still very hit or miss when it comes to poppage time. I sent an August bulk special on the 31st and it logged Sept 17th or so, and will probably finish in January with all the others cramming in a bulk order before the bulk pricing went up at the beginning of this month. There is a thread on BlowoutForums where they are listing their received, logged, and popped dates so others can track how long submissions are taking.

N0: slabbed Authentic is normally for cards with immense paper loss or "hand cut" cards that are trimmed so far that you can't see all/most of the borders or is under the required size for the issue. See my Jell-O Mantle cards: N0 since they were cut poorly from a box.

AUTHENTIC ALTERED would be for regularly issued cards that have been trimmed or recolored, etc.

I got that same designation (unless the list of cards was somehow jumbled, which I doubt):
N0: AUTHENTIC 1965 Topps 350 Mickey Mantle Card

I just wanted to get it slabbed for the day I decide to sell it. Figured it would get a low grade g or vg or something, but now I'm perplexed. Here's a quick scan of it. The back is free of problems...

My bet is that it's "factory miscut", not a true rectangle. My other submission, I got hit with the same thing on two Mantle cards, but since I didn't accept Min Grade Auth on them, they're sending them back raw. Since this submission allowed for Auth cards, they slabbed it anyways.

Your card slants left. It's not just diamond cut, the card is sliced at an angle.

PSA subs are the easiest subs to separate and figure out Bobby you'll be fine :)

Of course that also depends on how well you organized your entry sheets from each person.

Should be easy as long as sub entry sheets were used. I make my own sub entry sheets for each subber to use in my own bulks. PSA is fairly consistent in keeping slabs together. Very rarely do they separate stuff from the entry its usually fairly well in order. Only on a few "rushed" poppage do I think that PSA has made a mess of an order.

My 1967 Laughlin Mantle PSA 8 is probably up there. Bought for $150, and the last PSA 6 sold for $275. There was a PSA 9 that sold by auction through PWCC for $103, but PWCC didn't put "Mickey Mantle" or even "Mantle" in the title, so it definitely slid under the radar.
So is it worth $400-500? Probably if I listed it as Buy-It-Now/Best Offer and waited for the right buyer. *Saw the Laughlin in the picture and thought it must be mine, but that's someone else's as mine was graded in my bulk submissions which popped a few days earlier.*

My Bazooka Panel of McCovey/Cash/Maloney got a PSA 9. The last 9 sold 10 years ago for $353. PSA SMR value is $600, but I don't think this set is as popular as it used to be. Will be putting it up for sale. Even with the SMR value of $600, it looks like they had no problem with it remaining on a bulk submission, but that also could be because the declared value of the entire order was so high that the order was still within tolerance for the overall insurance value.

The Stamps panel with Mantle/Bruton that got a 7 last sold for $265 in that grade, but even a 4 sold for $205. So again, another good BIN/BO if I wanted to sell it, but for now it's in my Master Set. Two 8s last sold for $1900 each. I will probably be reviewing this card a couple of times if needed, since it is pretty sharp. Here is a picture of it raw:

Here are eight of my better ones from the group sub. The Clemente RC is obviously rough, but I needed to get it slabbed just for the purpose of authenticating it. Most of my Mantles came back as 3 and 4's, which was completely depressing, but the '67 is a 7, so I'm happy with that one. The Mays/Aaron is ridiculously beautiful, the Winfield RC is an OPC, which is kinda cool, and the '63 Fleer checklist is wicked tough to find. The Fleer Mays got a 7, too. And lastly, two off the chart tough variations which are hard to find in any shape...

I know, I'm being a whiny b_tch about it - HA!! HA!! - but three separate high dollar cards that I've owned forever coming back as authentic or altered, and a bunch of other HOF'ers that look perfect and coming back as 6's or lower??? It hurts. The end result is, when I go to buy high grade cards now, I will love them even more, because I know how stupidly tough it is to end up with a card in one of those slabs. Yowza!!
