I've got a 2004 Playoff Prime Cuts timeline 1925 NL MVP game used Rogers Hornsby bat card, #23/25. It's authentic, purchased 5 years ago. I look for the the card on ebay under 2004 Playoff Prime Cuts Rogers Hornsby, and see the exact same card (timeline 1925) with the #23/25, for sale. Anyone heard of duplicates by exact serial number in this set?

Why don’t you post a pick of each one .

Here's the eBay one; post a picture of yours.

Sometimes they made cards with silver foil, and some with gold foil.

That may be why, I have a silver foil, ebay one doesn't have foil could've been gold.

No, it seems like they made two of those cards with the same serial number.

I believe I'd have to contact Panini, America, to report this error. Donruss went bankrupt, and was bought by Playoff, who was than bought by Panini.

While this listing on the EBay card say 23/25 I can’t read the back of the card . So maybe it’s a error on the seller. Maybe .......

Wasn't there a Basketball card that was 1/1 but someone got the backup copy from Fleer when they went under?

Seems like it could be something like that, a couple extra copies made in case one gets damaged in packaging or something.

Different version of the card is possible. A lot of times they had very subtle differences, like the foil colors mentioned. Error by seller possible as is the fact that two may also exist. I know the jersey cards can be tough to differentiate sometimes as some weee “prime” and some were regular, but never seen a “prime” bat card unless it was a barrel.nameplate or something else unique.

In any event, Hornsby certainly doesn't get the respect he deserves. Two triple crowns; 3-time .400 hitter; highest lifetime OBP for a right-handed hitter (.433); .358 lifetime BA. Would probably have hit 400+ HR's but an injury shortening his career.

Highest regards,

Larry
