What do you do when you see them?

Want to take them off or leave them be? (I've never tried to peel one off.)

Make you nervous about authenticity or full-steam ahead?

Part of the provenance story or shady stigma?

Good questions. My vote is "C".

c) Part of the provenance story or shady stigma?

It is either good or it isn't. He really had no clue what he was doing. Let me rephrase... when he KNEW what he was doing, it is bad. But he put stickers on all good stuff too. I have seen fake stamps on stuff that was good for God's sake.

Again.. it is either good or it isn't. If you send to PSA, they are not going to reject if the sticker is on there and it is good. Also, I would buy it with the sticker on there if I liked and wanted it.

I also leave the sticker - I figure if it will come off now it will come off later. But maybe I am wrong...

The last negative feedback I got was because of one of those stupid stickers. The buyer tried to remove it and it tore off part of the paper. He then complained to ebay that I put the sticker on it and he wanted to return the print. I said 'No' because of the damage done by the attempted removal.

To echo what the other good responses have already said, the photo stands alone. Most of the Rogers stuff in the mainstream hobby are fine. (99.9%) probably. He targeted specific individuals with most of his fraud and I am happy to say that a large percentage of that stuff has been identified and removed from the hobby. Very few Rogers fakes are actually circulating around so while the sticker itself is ugly and stupid, I would not assume it has any higher percentage at this point of being fake than your average photo out there. If you ever have any questions, post it on here and the collective knowledge should be able to identify bad vs. good items. Especially if it is a smaller value photo and the price of PSA authentication is more than value of most photos.

Just ignore the sticker and judge the photo on its own merits. I had a photo with his sticker that was perfectly original.

What is really weird is Ben and I were discussing a specific example of a fraudulent Rogers print and little did I know but at that moment it was in the mail to my house as part of a miscellaneous photo print lot that had been consigned by a hobbyist currently in prison. I saved the print as a reminder of this part of our hobby's history.

Sellers and buyers. Scott, you have a story for all occasions. Ugh.

Appreciate everyone's take. The sticker shown is from a legit William C. Greene shot of Branch Rickey that I have. It is just sad to see Rogers' tainted imprimatur stuck on the back.

Write Ahole on the back and Draw a pencil arrow from it to the sticker. It might make you feel better. Be easy though.. don’t press too hard so it shows through the front:)

I have this Ruth rookie era 3.5” round photo that has the Rogers sticker on the back and was skeptical, it was sent to PSA and sure enough came back as a Type 1, could be blind luck that he put that on there, but it is genuinely a Type 1.

He would also put his fake Conlon and Thompson stamps on the back of legit Conlon and Thompson photos too. I think he did this to try and legitimize the stamps so they would pass standing alone on other photos. It is frustrating but like has already been said, judge the photo on its own merits and ignore the sticker, despite how shiny it is.

I have put in my time. My first experience with Rogers' stuff was when he cut up the Matty McIntyre photo album and sold it off a picture at a time, along with his accompanying certificate for each piece. Many of us were upset about it, but we also bought plenty of it as well - I still have four items. I think it would be great to 'reconstruct' the album virtually - I bet we could find over a hundred photos just from net54 members.

You guys could always write to John and ask him about this stuff. I am sure he likes to get letters at mail call. And if you know his inmate number you might be able to send him some commissary like I did for a wayward cousin yesterday...I hear ramen is pretty good on cold days and when you don't feel like going to the chow hall.

Hey, I had ramen this week, and it was great. I kind of feel about ramen the way the Barenaked Ladies feel about Kraft dinner:

If I had a million dollars we wouldn't have to eat Kraft dinner
(But we would eat Kraft dinner)
(Of course we would, we'd just eat more)

Darn, a 20 oz Coke is almost two dollars at Target.

What would I have to fake to get a day here and there to do some shopping?

I hate stickers - but at least these are on the back of the item. Not like many "autograph authenticators" who find it necessary (probably for their own ego) to put their sticker on the front of a photo, sometimes next to the signature!
