I love bobbleheads. I am a collector of Yankees bobbles as well as of the Jets, Knicks, Islanders, Super Heroes, celebrities and anything else that catches my eye.

I will admit that my collection is modern. I only have one vintage nodder; a 1968 Lil' Dribbler NY Knicks bobble. I would absolutely love to see collections of other bobblehead collectors. Show off your collections here, vintage or modern. Doesn't matter to me.

commishbob,

Really great looking collection. I’m a fan of all things Orioles as well as a “Baltimore” Colts fan. I haven’t picked up any of the modern bobbing heads, but possibly will one day; at least the ones that catch my eye. Ultimately like to get all of the plastic figures from the statue unveiling’s; I do have the Brooks from the event.

Thanks Mark. I'm in a never-ending quest for all things BALTIMORE Colts! I've got lots of things to post but I'm still trying to figure out where to do it among the various subforums here. I finished off a complete run of regular B-Colts cards and found a lot of oddball stuff as well. I've blogged much of it.

Mike I remember your blog...I had it in my blog list while you were actively posting. You should crank it back up.

But as you know it can be a burden to post regularly. I've been ignoring my '58 and '60 Topps blogs and I feel guilty but I have had so many projects going (hobby and non-hobby) that it got tough to keep up. Now that I'm retired I can look at them again.

I'm a superhero collector also, mainly Spider-Man and Batman. I have been trying to come up with a way to display the two collections in the same area as well when I move. I guess it will be size of area depending.

I do have a photo of Yankee Stadium signed by Spider-Man artist John Romita Sr that I figured I could hang in between the Yankees & Spidey collections as a "bridge" between the 2 collections.

Mike

Hi Mike,

The Adam West Statue is a Sideshow Premium Format. The Wonderwoman on the top shelf is the only non Hot Toys figure of the top 2 shelves.

I'm also a big Adam West fan. I was going to meet him and Burt Ward at last September at the Rose City Comic Con But Mr. West passed away about a month before the show. I still met Burt Ward and got to talk to him for 2 or 3 minutes. I also got William Shatners auto. Best autograph experience I've had since the 80's when I Got Mantle, Koufax and a slew of other HOF at Portland Ore BB Card shows.

yankeesjetsfan

I was lucky. I got to meet him twice. Once solo, the other time with Burt Ward & Lee Merriwether. It was great both times.

I was thrilled once the show got released on DVD and Blu-Ray and a flood of merchandise related to the show was released. I was able to get a few things here and there. The Hot Toys figures are holy grails. I hope to own them at some point.

Not as rare as Bob's weirdos, but I thought I would post my Willies. L to R: gold base (expensive but obtainable), legible signature (rare), dark face w/bat, light face w/bat, light face w/ball, silver foil sticker. Lou Criscione sold me the silver foil years ago and said it was extremely rare. I've never seen another.

Here are some of my Dodgers bobbleheads.

The minis have so many variations of head styles that I'll be able to add to my collection slowly over time. For example, they come with hair parted to left, hair parted to right, moon face, smiling with a closed mouth or showing teeth. They also have them holding a short bat, long bat or a glove and ball.

I also posted pictures of a variety of the square base Dodgers and some other miscellaneous ones as well.

I regret not buying one of the weirdo nodders that Bob was selling (I think about a year ago).

As much as I hate the D**gers, those are some great nodders! The Giants minis come in the same variations. You forgot to mention “eyes left” or “eyes right.” The Giants have that variation in the normal size but I haven’t seen it in the minis. Some Giants minis also don’t have painted sleeves.

The guy between the orange wood base and the Buddy Flex...what’s he made out of?

Did you see the screwball Dodger on eBay, a few weeks back?

ggary
02-27-2018, 07:31 PM
YankeesJetsFan, that is a wedge base nodder. According to the nodderpriceguide it is rated as an 8 out of 10 to find difficulty (or a little harder to find the Werdo screwball [7 out of 10 difficulty]).

ooo-ribay, thanks, the red base nodder is made of rubber. It looks very similar to the Buddy Flex but, besides their bases, they are not exactly the same. Also, I did see the screwball on ebay but the one I have is in better condition.

It's weird, Gary....1/4 of you D**ger minis are looking the "wrong" way....I have never seen a Giants mini looking anything but left. Also, notice two of mine do not have the painted sleeves.

YankeesJetsFan - I used the nodderpriceguide.com for relative rarity.

ooo-ribay - The eyes looking the opposite way seems to be common with the moon face with the swirl hair. If you look at Bob Freedman's photo again you can notice that his is also looking the "wrong" way.

Sooooo....I saw this "Giant sized" SF nodder on ebay...the seller wanted $460. The bobber itself was old but the decals looked all wrong. I discovered it is part of the "Champs" series...they also did basketball and bowling. I picked up the baseball version and made my own fantasy peice. Better than the $460 version, IMHO. :p

Awesome Gary!!! Are there going to be autographed versions available?

Not in the sense that you can order one from the manufacturer (https://store.bobbleheadhall.com/collections/bobbleheads/products/thumbsdownguy?utm_source=criteo&variant=55392423879), but if you happen to run into me at a ballgame and you have one with you, I'll be happy to sign it.

I recently picked up a couple of "Catman" Willie Mays nodders (flanking the vintage Willie in the middle). The two outer nodders are also Catman and were limited to 24 pieces each. These were made by a guy in Canda 15-20 years ago. I'm not sure how he made the "realistic" Mayses because they are very close to the vintage but not exact (for example, the hat crest is embossed and not a decal). The white base sold on ebay a few weeks ago for $227 but then the buyer demanded a refund and left negative feedback saying it was "repainted junk." Uh, no...it's a Catman. Dude should have known by the painted chest. I got it the second time around for $100.

There is also a realistic Mays in a NY road uni and a caricature Bonds that was limited to 25 pieces. I am on the lookout for both. I think Jimm has them.

I've got a few hundred (modern) bobbles and have been looking for a way to display them. No room for bookshelves in my "cave", but I don't trust shelves hanging on the wall since I'm worried they'll bobble themselves right off the edge and fall onto the floor. Just bought 14 of these from IKEA, by my calculations they should hold 8-9 standard sized bobbles each and I'll feel like my little guys are safe behind a bar without being obscured.

I think I just figured something out....

(from left to right) The first Giants bobbin' head (other than the rubber Buddy Flex) was the orange wood base with no decals; next came the color base with no decals; next came the white base mini's with decals. After those it was the white bases. The white bases with decals are purported to be only 5% of the white base run. The decals are tiny. I'm now thinking they used the mini decals on the first white bases...

Wonder if they started cranking these out again?

Hey Jimm - I just picked up the one in the middle. It came with some sort of "Note of Authenticity." These things are a bit of a mystery. The maker, Matt Hirsch, used to produce limited numbers (25 for the green base Mays). Then he started doing realistic Mayses that were pretty much knock offs of the original, vintage ones. This latest is kind an amalgamation, although neither the body nor head exactly matches the others. I like them, no matter what the story.

What country were the original vintage bobbles or nodders made?

Per John Brey, a big reseller of vintage bobbin' heads and owner of the Nodder Exchange website:

"1960's Bobbing Head dolls were manufactured by Lego, a Swiss firm, and as we all know were put together in Japan. Apparently Lego made an agreement with Sports Specialties of Los Angeles California which gave S.S. the exclusive rights to import and distribute the dolls. Another firm, Bobbie Enterprises,Inc. sold them through mail order."

Matt Hirsh started making these in the mid 90s.. I actually was the first one to sell a few on ebay in 1997. He actually sold these on ebay from 1999 to around 2005. Matt an artist he hand created his own molds and hand painted them.. So there all kinds of variations. He still makes these in limited quanities. Hope that helps..

Ugh.... just more proof of my short-term memory loss. I can remember what I paid for a random pennant in 1993, but couldn't remember the Athletics after the 20 seconds it took to reply. Maybe I had the little White Sox mini subconsciously stuck in my head.

It's this guy! In my 30 years of collecting Giants nodders, this is the first I've been able to get with "eyes right." The odd thing is, Doug earlier posted a picture of 16 KC A's mini's and 14 of his 16 (88%) are "eyes right." This is a mystery to me...conventional wisdom is that the dolls were made by Lego, a Swiss company, shipped to Japan for paint and decals and then exported to the States. So, why would "eyes right" be so prevalent with Doug's mini's and so rare with my Giants (1 of 40)? All I can think of is that they went to different painting facilities...

ooo-ribay
12-06-2021, 02:41 PM
Another mystery....Lou Criscione's bobber book shows only three teams to ever have a bat on the player's left side...KC, Angels and a Cubs black face. Again, if all dolls were shipped from Lego to Japan, wouldn't it stand to reason that the left bat was seen in all (or most) teams? I would have thought Japan would get "raw" dolls and just paint and decal them according to demand.

Although only 50-60 years old, I think nodders are hugely undervalued and underappreciated. They are very fragile and many got blown up with firecrackers (by kids like me). In my mind, they were the coolest things sold at souvenir stands in the past 60 years. In the "Hey, pennant guys" thread, we have dissected pennants (ad nauseum). With our collective knowledge, we have solved many mysteries as to when, where and by who pennants were made. I'd love to expand my nodder knowledge to the same degree.
