My fiancee and I are looking to stay in the US for our honeymoon this September. It'll be a week long. My fiancee's ideal honeymoon is an over-the-water bungalow in the Caribbean. We don't want to leave the country, though, not to mention we can't afford that. We're looking at $2-3k all in as our preferable price range for the trip.

My preference would be a beach vacation where we can go snorkeling, deep sea fishing, etc. However, for the sake of keeping our options open in the US, we'll listen to anything - beach, mountain resort, etc. The only state in the US that is officially ruled out is California.

Let's hear your suggestions. Definitely let me know your location suggestions, and if possible, places to stay in the locations. Thanks!

Do a few days in Miami and then drive down to Key West, stopping at Islamorada or one of the other keys on the way down. Beautiful drive.

Otsego Lake. Beach, check. Fishing, check. Scuba diving, why not.

Newport Oregon is a nice place. I have stayed at the Embarcadero a few times. They have a dock for crabbing and you can rent boats to fish the bay. If interested I can give you more info including the best way/place to rent there. Here are a couple pics from the room I stay at.

Depending on your plan for kids in the near future, I'd avoid Florida since Miami is presumably still having a Zika issue. That leaves very few warm options.

Have you considered Costa Rica? You could probably do it on that budget and it's beautiful. Not sure the Zika risk there at this point.

Well, we decided on Hawaii (meaning she was adamant and I decided not to pick this battle to fight).:rolleyes:

less than an hour from Portland downtown/PDX airport - Columbia River Gorge...windsurfing, hiking, golf, small towns, local brewery, lots of nature, plenty to do within a short drive, not too hot/cold/rainy at that time of year, and only a few hours from Seattle...

gorgeous location!
