I'm sure most of you have experienced the same problem I had: a Major League home plate sitting around the house for years, not knowing exactly what to do with it. Problem solved!

I special-ordered a bottomless acrylic box that covers the home plate and a few baseballs. The plan is to next create a wooden grooved platform for it to sit inside. I was going to create a home-plate shaped box, but this was much easier and allows for the display of related balls and/or tickets.

Great display Scott...
it looks awesome!

Just curious where you had the acrylic box made along with the cost?
...if you don't mind me asking...

Don't mind at all. I went by Lowes first and the acrylic sheet alone was expensive enough that this was a simple decision.

shopPOPdisplays, ordered 12/19 and arrived today
$137.19 including shipping by Fedex ground, and tax
4 x 21 x 21, 1/4" thick acrylic.

Wow, not too bad at all...
and definitely worth it, it adds a certain sophistication as a display.
Thanks for the info Scott.

I once poured a little gravy on it, so I did it mainly for protection. For a while it smelled like steak.

You're burying the lead. What's the significance of the home plate???

Used for 2014 opening series in Houston vs NYY. Jeter's last season. Jeter, Altuve and Ichiro scored on it.

Thanks all.

Finished the display today - had planned on buying a nice slab of oak, dying, sanding and adding grooves for the acrylic cover to set in. Instead, I found two pieces of dark grey tile that are currently sitting on top of a 24 x 24 piece of pine. It's all so heavy that there is no need to glue, and the tile, pine slab and acrylic cover are perfect measurements, so no cutting needed.

Very nice looking display Scott. I like the color of the tile with the rest of it.

Thanks Andy. The next pieces of the display will be autographed balls from Jeter, Ichiro and Altuve, and tickets or stubs from the series.

Looks good, but the irony is you wouldn't let me put my feet on the same coffee table.
