This Type I 1947 World Series photo is one of my favorites

Mike, I love your action photo, period. Scooter Rizzuto really got "the heave ho" the clean, hard way!

My contribution to this worthy thread is an image made by our esteemed member, Chris De Bono. He snapped a photo of the four fantasy 1954 Wilson Franks cards that I crafted in conjunction with my book on immediate postwar regional-food issues, NEVER CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN. Probably not worth mentioning, but the pesky white dot above Jack's eyebrow in his pinkish-lavender Wilson is a dust speck, as Chris assured me!

Among the sets I love are the '54 Wilsons. At only twenty cards, most players are not included; it was simply an all-star starting line-up from each league, with a manager. I decided to add Jackie Robinson and Mickey Mantle to his respective squad, with two versions of each. Had lots of fun creating them, backsides and all!

Hope you feel they were worth a nice glance. To be sure, very few Jackie Robinson cards were produced during his short, but mighty career.

Thanks all for your own postings. Keep 'em coming!

Happy New Year to you all. ----Brian Powell

Justin, your array of the great warrior is very, very moving. I love them. I had never seen the QUICK magazine JR cover before. Would you mind telling me what month/year it's from? Again, superb variety, which I find intensely appealing.

Guy, I love your display. The JR check, with the letter of authenticity from dear Rachel Robinson herself is priceless. Well done, my friend.

Troy, your 48/49 Leaf Gum specimen is dazzling. That is not my favorite card of Jack, but when it looks as good as yours, with its extra crisp focused picture, and near centered image, well, the card really sparkles. A centerpiece? You better believe it, mate! Thanks for taking the time to load it up and share with us.

Thanks Brian. The Quick magazine is from October 6th, 1952. It's pretty common and can be found cheap on ebay. I love the cover and small size so I think it's a nice pickup.

Your most welcome, Justin. Great collection

Thanks for the info on the QUICK magazine with JR. I am so glad it's from 1952--one of the greatest World Series ever fought. Close games all. Jackie slugged a home run in his first at bat in game 1. I should try to get a nice copy. Though the same photo was used by Topps to craft their 1954, I love the cover nonetheless because it looks unique in itself, and so timely with its preview of the Series.

By the by, Justin, I don't know if you're aware of this, but the 1952 World Series game films may all be found on YOUTUBE. These films are wonderfully done Kinescopes of the actual TV broadcasts, and then were sent overseas to our dear soldiers fighting the Korean War. Honestly, they are a time capsule opened up. Jack had a good Series that year, as I'm sure you're well aware of. I liken it as a nostalgic dream wish to see Jackie Robinson and the rest of the Boys of Summer Dodgers play again, watching the exact same telecast as those privileged to have a television that fall of '52. Treat yourself to watching it if you haven't. Prepare your favorite hot dogs and beverage, and enjoy! The Brooks may not have won, but it was see-saw all the way through the end of game 7. The Yanks had to bleed profusely to win this one!

Nuf' said. ----Brian Powell

Thanks Brian ,

I am very happy with this card , the photo in the Ebay listing did not do this card justice , I'm hoping to add to my Jackie collection in the next few months , and then explain why I collect Jackie , and the connection between Jackie , his wife Rachel and members of my family in the spring , summer and fall of 1946 . I will start a Thread here on Net54 once I add a few more pieces to my collection

Guy, I too am looking forward to your thread. Take all the time you need, and I wish you the very best in your pursuit of those cards you wish to add to your Jackie Robinson collection beforehand.

A thought just occurred to me. I devoted the far majority of a chapter from my book on immediate postwar regionals to Mr. Robinson. Entitled Never Cheaper By the Dozen, a few of my customers have purchased my book solely for a particular chapter, but I know that's usually a stretch for collectors. Furthermore, the book is an E-book on a CD, to be read by inserting it into the disc drive of your computer or laptop. I just thought since you are a strong Jackie Robinson fan, you would enjoy this chapter; however, I also wanted you to know of its format. My feedback has been sparse, but positive nonetheless. I won't hound you, but thought I should at least mention it.:)

Take care, my fellow collecting warrior. ---Brian Powell

Jackie at the Martin Luther King, Jr. All-Star Classic,.Snagged this with my own hand in March 1970 at Dodger Stadium. MLB stars of every color. Field level and there was a section between us. The usher at the top of his aisle wouldn't let me down, so I went back to my seat, thought a moment, and cut across the middle of the aisle that separated us (stepping on the occasional foot as I went but telling people what I was after and they were general very good about it!).

I scrapbooked it from the program he signed it in - hence the brown background. Still manage to have held onto ticket stub too.

RARE Jackie Robinson Game ticket and the only known example PSA Slabbed
this was Game 1 of 3 games played
Picture is of Game 1 and news clipping from the game
1949 Apr 8th Brooklyn Dodgers @ Atlanta Crackers
this was the 1st Integrated sporting even in the deep south played in Atlanta
Atlanta was the Home of the Ku Klux Klan and prior to the game there were death threats made towards Jackie

The game pitted the all-white Crackers against the integrated Brooklyn
On April 8, 1949, the Brooklyn Dodgers came to Atlanta to play a three-game series with the Atlanta Crackers. The games were televised locally and featured two black players, Jackie Robinson and Roy Campenella. It was the first integrated professional baseball game in Atlanta.
Jackie Robinson drove in two runs as The Dodgers won 6-3

I've never seen this card before. Very cool!

The 1955 All American Sports Club set has several sheets of strip-style cards. I wasn't aware that PSA slabbed them until relatively recently. There are key pre-RCs in some sports, including Bill Russell (though misidentified in the checklist and PSA has slabbed the wrong card as Russell). Here is an example of a sheet with basketball, boxing and football players:

That's a very nice one. I have a PSA Authentic Jackie 1952 Star Cal; I don't think that PSA has any number-graded of these when they include the envelope. didn't realize that BGS provides number grades for them...that one is very sharp too, much sharper than the one I have...

Thanks to Stephen for helping me date and authenticate this and thanks to Andy Sandler for helping me make the deal

My pleasure! Glad I could help and give back. It's a beauty.

I have had this card for over 40 years in my collection. I am finally starting to send some of my collection to PSA, SGC and Beckett. To say I am excited about the grade would be a huge understatement. I love looking at all these Robinson’s!!

Today is Jackie Robinson Day across the Major Leagues ,I am happy to have aquired this 1951 Topps Brooklyn Dodgers team card , it is the only card that Jackie appeared on in 1951 , I now have a card from every year he played with the Dodgers 1947-1956 , here is my collection....
