I started collecting prewar about three years ago, and finished my first (and favorite) set this month - T209-1. I live about an hour from Contentnea Creek, the namesake of the Contentnea cigarette brand in Wilson, NC. Minor-league ball has always been a big part of life around here, and I consider this set to be my "hometown" prewar set. Special thanks to Leon (via Heritage), Dave (ccre), and Royce for helping me along the way!

Would love to see more completed T209-1 sets from others...I know of at least a couple on the board.

Congratulations! That's a nice set. Coincidentally, I finished my set a couple of months ago, thanks to an assist from the fine folks at BST Auctions. Crockett was my last card and it took me a lot longer than 3 years.

Great job Dan and a very nice looking group of cards. I never knew Contentnea Creek existed. Ill have to check it out next time I am in the N.C. area.

Congrats...impressive set for your first completion. I feel fortunate to have a battered card from this set for my type collection.

And someone get Ted a Booles to complete his set!

Great set, congrats on your completion. It's always interesting to see the sets people choose to put together and the reasons why. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Dan,

Congrats! It's certainly not an easy accomplishment. Now don't go and "hooked" on the T209-2's like I am now. Talk about tough ....geez!

Dan, which card was the most difficult find to finish the set? Well done! From my experience finishing the set, the Booles, Raleigh card is definitely the toughest.

Congrats! I'm still working on completing my first pre-war set --- only 7 left to finish the Helmar Stamps set...including the elusive Cy Young.

Thanks for all the compliments fellas!

Dan, which card was the most difficult find to finish the set? Well done!

I actually got lucky and picked up five of the toughest cards (Booles, Cooper, Gilmore, Martin, Sisson) in one auction from Kevin Savage. I think they flew under the radar a bit since it was a smaller auction house, and I got a pretty good deal on them, I thought. I don't think I've seen another Booles, Gilmore, or Sisson come up in auction in the 2+ years that I've been working on the set, until a Gilmore popped up on eBay this week.

The last card I picked up was McGeehan, and before that it was Armstrong and Cowell. There had been a number of them for sale/auction over the past couple years, but they were either in pretty bad condition, or else they were on eBay at inflated prices that I wasn't willing to pay. The toughest card condition-wise for me was Armstrong - the registration seems to be a problem with that one, and for whatever reason it doesn't wear its age particularly well.

Congrats. I like how all the cards are in similar condition. Very nice.

Thanks - I tried hard to get examples that weren't too far off from one another. I'd like to upgrade a couple of the cards, but I'm pretty happy with the set otherwise.

Now don't go and "hooked" on the T209-2's like I am now. Talk about tough ....geez!

Don't worry Dave - I think the picture series was about all I could take!
