Guys (Hey Leon)...I want to apologize in advance for posting this here....this board gets the most eyeballs. I posted this in another area, and no one has seen it yet....

The PSA specials for this month are actually back down to normal ($6.25 per card, PRE 1956 - Minimum order 50 cards).
I am halfway there just by myself. I'm not looking to make this as huge as the "BULK" order was, but I'm willing to help out, so if it wind's up big, so be it.

Anyway, let me know.....

Thanks, Scott

I'm gonna post it here, so EVERYONE can see it....

Include the cards in a CS I - along with a slip of paper stating what they are, the value you place on them, along with return shipping and your net54 handle (so I can PM you).

The cost will be $6.25 + $1 per card for shipping to and from California.

Send to:
Robert Williams
PO Box 61362
Raleigh, NC 27661-1362

Include a personal check, or if you rather paypal F/F upon arrival that is cool too. That's pretty much it. Under the special, ONLY cards before 1956! They must be standard size (Topps) or smaller (T206s). No big cards, tall boys, Mutoscopes, etc. There is a $100 value limit per card.

Standard only?
Pre 1956?

I'm in for around 50

bobbyw8469
10-02-2017, 11:58 AM
Standard size (or smaller)...nothing bigger as you can't mix and match sizes.

Updated info....once again, this is ONLY for pre 1956 and cards valued UNDER $100. You can fudge it a little (ie, beater Ernie Banks rookie), but nothing TOO outrageous (ie, NO Hank Aaron rookies - not even beaters).....

I have an original collection of vintage football and baseball cards that I purchased from my dad. I've been wanting to get some of them graded. Many of the '53 and '54 Topps and Bowman are in crisp NM-MT condition. Would love to send in 50-100 at this time and at that price point (have hundreds more I'd love to grade but not sure if I can justify and I guess I just don't understand how it works) if these qualify. I had a trained eye look at them once who told me I may have quite a few 7's and 8's. What if one gets graded an 8 or 9, which make them worth more than $100 do they end up charging you more?

They wont charge more for grading, but when you sub, you have to be ojective about the value. The value you assign is what you get reimbursed should the card become lost or damaged. If a card is TRULY worthy of an '9' grade and worth around $1,500, then I obivously wouldn't sub that one.

We gotta be close... No?

I was thinking the same thing. But after looking at it..."business days" take forever. Since it took a while to log the submission we're only at about 30 business days at this point depending on how many days they work around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Could possibly be another month if they take the full 50 days. Of course...on the other hand, it could pop Tuesday too....

12-30-2017, 02:04 PM
The guys keeping track on Blowout have shown that all submission (bulk and even 5-days) are getting delayed at PSA. PSA is moving buildings right now and didn't have good monthly specials the last couple of months to try and slow down submissions, but they're still slammed. I agree you're probably looking at another calendar month.

I signed up for the PSA collectors club in October and submitted for a 10 day turnaround on 10/21. Submission was received on 11/8. I'm at over 30 business days with no word.

Wow, I guess I need to be more patient. I joined the PSA collectors club in November and took a bunch of my 1972 STP cards to the Philly show in early December. My account shows that the cards were received on December 12, and I anxiously checked the last several days to see if the grades popped yet.

I had never submitted anything to PSA before, so I really didn't know how good they were with turnaround times.

Most of the 1972 STP cards are not big value cards no matter what they grade, but I am anxious to see what the Lorenzen with car card and the Bobby Allison card grade.

BTW, did you submit the Richard Petty card for grading? Just curious to see what it grades.

Arazi4442
12-31-2017, 01:02 AM
My first submission as well. Total value was well less than 1K for all 15 submissions. Yes, I did submit the Petty card, I'll let you know when (and if 😀) I get my grade. I've emailed PSA multiple times and received only robot replies. I hope they are as busy as was mentioned above. It makes want to work with another tpg exclusively.
I know PSA brings more $, but I got back into collecting just for me. Not trying to turn a profit on anything.

I completely understand your point. That is largely how I feel as well. I mostly collect obscure cards outside the big four sports because I love the impossible to find, even if it may only be worth $100-200.

I decided to get my STP cards graded because there is only one other complete set on the registry (the owner also posts on this board) due to the extreme rarities of a couple cards in that set.

When I dropped off my cards at the Philly show in early December, the line at PSA was huge. As far as the value of the total submissions, if the cards would somehow get lost in the mail, there is a good chance I would never find another example of a couple of the cards.

Don't send them to Beckett if you're worried about turnaround. Their bulk grading services are taking an average of 90-100 business days right now, so right about 5-6 months.

bobbyw8469
12-31-2017, 06:18 AM
PSA has been going the full distance for the reasons everyone states. It also didn't help that this order was more problematic than most (rare, obscure cards that PSA didn't have certs already made up for).

bobbyw8469

You HAVE to account for holidays. PSA was not open for those days (and probably more, ie Black Friday)....I fully expect this to go the distance, and then some, due to the fact that I had to get "Shelia" involved. We had some cards that were so rare, that PSA did not even have specs set up for them. They had to photograph and catalog the ones that were in our order. It happens.

Not a complaint against you Bobby, I'm appreciative of you providing this service. But PSA needs to get their s#!t together.

It's been well documented on other boards about PSA's struggles to keep up with demand. Joe Orlando issued an apology, but basically stated there is nothing that can be done about it. I guess at this point now, it will pop when it pops. I've decided to stop checking on it.

Actually, around day 87. I’ve noticed they have been grading on Saturdays since the beginning of Feb. I’ve noticed total graded collectibles have been increasing on Saturdays. Joe O even mentioned they have been paying overtime! Hopefully very soon? I guess the 50 day submitters are viewed as bottom of the barrel!

Sure seems like it...I asked them today if the cards were lost. I hate to think PSA has actually lost an order, but it sure seems like it......it has actually been "in progress" for so long, that they order dropped off my home page and PSA says I have NO ORDERS OUTSTANDING!! Of course, when you go under the orders, there it sits.

My cards are around where I expected them to grade. A bit low on a couple and I need to look at the card they deemed trimmed. I doubt it but that’s the game. It will be in the next group sub unless I see what they think they see when it’s back in hand.

Thanks for pulling this together Bobby. It’s been an adventure.

What 3 cards were they? I don't know why PSA does that sometimes.....I put them on the order all grouped together.

They creamed mine....(mine are at the top)...Evidence of trimming...color restoration. I thought the Spahn might be trimmed, but wasn't sure, as I'm the WORST at detecting that stuff. All the others, I will need to really look at in hand, especially the color restoration on Williams #250.

Sweet grades on the T74 Booker Indians. Over 100 graded and the 7 is the highest with Two others. Plus a couple 6s.

Plus the 6.5 on the N462 New Discovery is highest graded in the set as well.

Not happy with some of my grades, but ya roll the dice.......especially with PSA lately. I was hoping against hope that maybe the long duration would perhaps result in better, more appropriate grades. In my case, that certainly didn't happen. I'll blame it on the mad crush of submissions, PSA re-locating and probably new, inexperienced graders. Thanks for your time and effort, Bobby..........much appreciated.

It might not be trimmed Lonnie. I agree with what someone else said about maybe inexperienced graders. If certain cards have a certain "look" about them, they might automatically assumed it's trimmed, even though it came from the factory that way (like the little flare out on a corner that some people call a "bat wing")

Easy to fix. I scan all my cards anyway. If somebody is pulling that crap with my cards I send an email to PSA with the scan and it’s fixed in a day or two. Usually this comes up because somebody fails to remove a card from their PC. I didn’t see any cards warranting being stolen like that though.

Plenty of people out there trimming 1950's commons. Hell there are people out there that trim 1980's commons. When people can make money the will do shady things. it is not like a 9 or 10 1955 topps common is worthless. plenty of motivation for someone shady to trim the card in my honest opinion.

All submitters cards have officially been shipped out. They should be trickling back any day now. Please update the thread when you get yours. And if you are pleased with your grades, say so. I believe there are a lot of unhappy people in this sub, so any bright spot anyone has will be looked upon favorably.

More should trickle in....nice bump on the Lasorda....going from SGC to PSA is a bump in itself monetarily....the half grade push should help when you decide to sell it. Lasorda is a legend.

Sorry to hear of those that didn't grade out well. I was very pleased with my (non-sport) cards. Exactly 100 Booker Tobacco Indians have been graded and I received a 7, only the second one from the entire series with none higher. And the gold bordered card at 6.5 is the highest of the series. 7 of the 13 cards submitted are the highest. Wanted to share my bright spot in this grouping. Thanks again Bobby!309734

Received yesterday - Thanks Bobby...

On the 2 that PSA deemed "Trimmed"

The Common, that I noted earlier in this thread, shows absolutely no trace of trim under magnification and compares dead on when overlayed on multiple other examples of 55s.

The 2nd trim - shows no evidence of trim under magnification but does not compare dead on when overlayed. Very slight margin is visible but ever so slight - so is possible but not probable IMO

Anyone else questioning the "TRIM" designations on your submit?

Had 15 EPDGs in this batch.

I will say that I was happy with this submission. 2 cards that I thought should grade higher and 5 or 6 that actually did grade higher than I expected.

So all in all, very happy. Thanks again Bobby.....looking forward to the next submission popping in October. ;)

Robert-Those two cards are trimmed and someone did a horrible job to boot.

And to Lonnie- Magnifying a card or laying a card on top of one another are not methods used to determine if a card has been trimmed. Knowing how to detect a consistent factory cut is how you determine if a card is trimmed, and that can be different from year to year and from issue to issue.

Just a suggestion to anyone who cannot tell if a raw card is trimmed or altered--pay a bit more and buy the card already graded and save yourself disappointment, time and frustration. Card may still be trimmed or altered but it is in a holder making it easier to sell down the road and less likely a chance you will lose money.

Thanks for the info. About 4 years ago I bought a nice raw '61 Topps, submitted it and it came back evid of trimming. It was the same size as other 61's but apparently the reason was as you stated.
That was my last raw card purchase. :)

I'll admit...I'm one of the worst at detecting that sort of stuff...unless it's obvious, then I'm your huckleberry. They came from a complete set that I won from Heritage. The money cards (Aaron, Banks, Kaline) all graded fine. I figured these would be fine as well. Heritage made no mention of the hack job and I sure can't tell.

Actually - the "under magnification" is where I was looking for differences in edge characteristics -

The one that I state "overlays perfectly" - Im pretty positive that there is no way its a trim....

The other one maybe so -

Thanks Tony....the sending back of cards is the hardest part (for me, at least).....when they are raw, it's not so bad. When you are staring at 150+ slabs in the face, and of course PSA has them all mismatched in the box, that's when it gets to be no fun.
