Yesterday NPR aired a feature that mentioned a post Civil War Black Baseball pioneer named Octavius Catto. Mr. Catto formed the Pythians team that played from 1866 to 1872. The feature devotes a relatively short time discussing the Pythians and mostly discusses Mr. Catto's other civil rights efforts and struggles.
But the info supplied could be a useful starting point for further inquiry. It sure would be nice to see a CDV, cabinet or mounted photo of his team.
