Congrats. I can't stay up until 3 but didn't have to.....

Actually I had two reasons for staying up until 3:00 a.m. One was celebrating a Penguins win in the Stanley Cup Finals without catfish. The other one may be posted later. Working out details.

I think we should refer to this card as J=K's Boner.

For those that don't get my reference (because the best jokes have to be explained, right?):

I posted the cabinet since I got it at the end of May. But the Harpers came today and was happy to see it was the full sheet and not just the cut out of the team.

Picked up a few nice additions to my back set, but this one has to be presented separately.

It may not be to pretty, but Hunter with a non-SC/Pied. back is very, very tough, indeed...................... ;)
It is probably one of the toughest cards that I own or will own, imo .................... :o

Interesting. Schaefer only played for one New York team and that was in 1916 for the Yankees. Nice uniform overlap.

All great pickups guys and how can you go wrong with Cobb or Anson. Orlando, you are a machine and born again hard! Just a year ago how many postcards did you own? Love the DFP image.

I just got this little grouping in from a long time board member and many thanks go out to him. The baseball/boxer cards are amongst the rarest cards from the 20s, along with the plain background Exhibits.

lucky to snag this little run of Sporting Life papers. I've always thought papers have been under valued, but that seems to be changing. Midweek Pictorials and Police Gazettes are also nice papers from close to the same time period.

Never thought I'd be able to add an unopened, properly dated Old Mill slide pack, to my collection. Many thanks to a long-time pack collector (and member of this board), who contacted me after uncovering what is perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime "find" of several of these packs, along with at least a portion of the carton they came in! If you're wondering about the "overstamp," it is factory info only. Now, if only I could find a reliable TPG to certify and slab this baby:

Over the years, some have suggested that an xray or MRI might reveal the contents of these packs--I'm not really sure about that. There is, of course, another method to "find out if a card is in there," but that of course is NOT going to happen. Thank you all for the positive comments, both here and via pm's.

Thanks Dan. Now I'm looking at 1955 Topps Robinsons. Would love a 52 obviously. I can feel the sickness rising. :D

Thought about doing a Jackie Robinson master set but a) probably can't afford it and b) I don't know what the hell a master set is. :) Thought about trading some Jackie Robinson photos for cards, but figured that takes a unique collector crossover.

....just picked up the faded and worn 1933 Worch ; call me suspicious but the photos used for the cards look a little bit similar ; He's pictured wearing an athletics uniform but in 1934 he was playing with the Chicago White Sox ; I guess the Wheaties ( Gold Medal Foods ) guys didn't want to spend any extra money for a current photo since it was the depths of The Depression. After one year with the White Sox he pitched for the 1935 Brooklyn Dodgers and then in 1936 wound up his last year with the St. Louis Cardinals ( His manager then was Frankie Frisch , age 38 ; Moose was 36.) "Moose"... I like that.

I usually don't share new purchases since they are usually T206's and everyone knows what T206's look like. This one though is a bit different with the pink 8 or B printmark. Even though a known T206 printmark variation to most T206 collectors, I figured maybe a few viewers may not of seen one or knew of it. Enjoy. P.S. If T206's don't ruffle your feathers enough, this was a PWCC auction win. Sorry guys but it was a needed card and variation.

..I'll add a scan of the backs for the guys who catalog all the different Burke postcard varieties...

I've always liked that pose...Hank needed company....----I wanted just the " Burke Postcard" aspect of the item but it still looks okay even with the fountain-pen signature. It's not too intrusive.

..I'll add a scan of the backs for the guys who catalog all the different Burke postcard varieties...

Not a card, but I thought it was a neat item. I was in Bisbee, AZ the past couple of days and I picked this item up. It is a door off a display case that was in the E.B. Wallace Pool Hall and Smoke Shop located at 26 Main St. in Bisbee. The only information that I could find about Wallace, is he came to Bisbee in 1906 at the age of 25 and died in 1965.

A lot of you guys reached out to me wondering why I was selling my CJ Cobb's. Some thought I was leaving the hobby and reached out to me. It was actually really nice to see the good guys on this board come out and show concern. Thankfully there was no cause for concern. I sold my 1914 and 1915 for this upgrade.

Wow. Sweet card. I do trust that, if you do decide to leave the hobby at some point, you'll have the courtesy of letting the board know via a new thread.

Orly love that Cobby! It even has the red paintbrush effect in the top white border.

I picked this up recently from a very discerning (and turns out very patient) collector who told me he looked for 3+ years for just the right one. He schooled me on how hard it is to find these 51 Bowman without any back stains or print lines, have good registration and centering. Once I started really looking for one I quickly figured out how correct he was!

Luckily you can make out (barely) the "42" and you can see in upper left its clearly a 350-460. Otherwise, we would have to take SGC's word for it. Ugly card indeed

When the Federal League disbanded after the 1915 season, Charles Weeghman, who had been the owner of the Whales, purchased the Cubs and merged the rosters of the two teams. Apparently, the Cubs wore Whale uniforms during spring training, and during the season their uniforms had a new logo that was essentially the 1915 Whales' logo with a bear in place of the whale.

Thanks, Sean, thrilled with it. PSA/SGC pops have it slightly rarer than the Hindu (don't know if that relates truly to reality).

It actually is a "never say never" purchase. I've seen it many times on ebay over the mounts. BUT, it was a Dean's card (who I think has slightly :p over priced cards), so I never clicked on it. No indication of back in title. The other day, for some reason I finally clicked ----- Sov.150 !!!! Almost fainted. Went to his web-site and got it for a very decent price ...... :):)

Fun stuff, Scott

This is interesting. I always thought that the Cubs purchased the ballpark (now called Wrigley Field) from the owner of the Whales. But it turns out that the owner of the Whales purchased the Cubs instead.

Happy to upgrade my Radbourn with this one. I presume the Goodwin Co. logo is trimmed off the bottom, thus why it received an "A"?

Question for the OJ folks however, was the bottom indeed likely cut off, or are there some variations where the bottom Goodwin text is just not included? There was a Galvin that sold the same night, which looked similar to this Radbourn. If the bottoms were cut off, was there perhaps some sort special offer related to sending them in? Just curious, and could not find explanations on line. 278516
