Question for our tobacco collectors..

I am trying to date the tax stamp on this tobacco tin.

It is similar to the four ounce Internal Revenue tax stamp pictured, but has an 1891 date (I think). This may a dumb question, but does that date the stamp specifically to 1891 only,
or would the 1891 series stamps have been used for other, later, years?

Thanks Dan, I saw that site, but it is limited to Cigar stamps only, but still helpful. It would seem that a stamp was used for a period of years past the issue date, until the next design came out. I would like to determine for how many years this 1891 issue may have been used.

was 1893 but possibly 1898. As with cigars one could pay for these tax stamps in a couple of ways including in advance of future sales. Too complicated to explain here. The actual cancel on the stamp best for determining closest sale dates. I have some notes somewhere with regard to cigarette tobacco stamps and the ranges they covered - will try and find them.
