.. Once I was out on E104 Wags, I re-allocated my bid $$ to this lot (one reason I like when lots end together instead of individually). Have really wanted a signed Hornsby for a long time. Beat up or not I'm very happy with it, and the others. Glad to have the Vance as well.

Re- Hornsby, would be curious what some of the autograph guys thought of that Diamond Stars lot w/ Hornsby ("Auction LOA's").

Wanted this one for quite awhile--cool, important guy and great image and color--and really happy to pick up as my sole Zeenut "type." Also it is highest graded. Plus: I knew he had played for Brooklyn, and went on to be a famous PCL manager--but did not know his semi-groundbreaking views on color barrier:

Picked up my first-ever Helmars. I know not everyone's cup of tea--and obviously not really mine--but thought I'd give them a try. Would only be interested in the cabinet size, partly for display purposes, and these did not disappoint--gorgeous, 8 x 10 and thicker than T3s, hefty. As you know, they added distressed look and rounded corners, but well done. Cobbie and Baker:

Really nice Obak's. If I wasn't focused on T206's, I'd be collecting Obak's. Mainly because theres 3 series, different front/back combos, different subject numbers, with frames/without frames, with back stamps/without back stamps. More bang for your buck on Obaks as well.

Holy crap! What a steal! How did I miss that auction! I was watching the McCredie that's Greg won and read up on McCredie's back-story written by Brian Campf (RIP) on SABR. Walt McCredie was a very interesting dude. That Zeenut really sticks out to me as well. Great grab.

Always interesting to see where board members are focusing their efforts . . .

These are two that recently made it into my HOF collection. Both were downgrades per the grades on the flips -- which is not uncommon for my collection.

I was also watching that LaJoie card, great pickup.

Also, to clarify, the auction only needs to end before the eBay bucks promo ends. You can pay for it anytime afterwards and still get the promo bucks!

Probably over-paid, but that's nothing new for me! I've always loved the pose and with '25s exploding I'd figure I'd go ahead and take the plunge. I was kinda surprised to see only 46 total graded between PSA and SGC.

Nice pick up! I watched that one tick down to 0 yesterday, almost almost bid but held off. Agree, it's probably a good time to snag the '27 with explosion of the '25. Would be curious to see what a '26 would get these days, since from what I've heard, they're tougher to find than the '25.

Dmitry, I disagree with you, based on the following narrative taken from the promotional notification I received from eBay:

"The Promotion starts at 5:00AM PT on May 6, 2017, and ends at 11:59PM PT on May 7, 2017 (the "Promotion Period"). Extra eBay Bucks can only be earned on every single item purchased that meets the minimum purchase requirement specified in the offer (a "Qualifying Purchase"). Promotion is valid on multiple qualifying purchases made within the promotion time period....Purchases must be completed during the Promotion Period and paid for with PayPal before the Promotion ends."

I've taken advantage of these bucks promos many times and have paid as much as a week later and always got the promo bucks. A Buy-It-Now auction, on the other hand, is a different story.

EDIT: I just paid for my PWCC winnings this morning (5/9), and the full 8% in eBay bucks got added to my account for the auctions that ended before the promo expired.

Thanks Ian! Years ago I almost pulled the trigger on a '21 exhibit Ruth, but never did. Now I regret it. Didn't want the same thing to happen again.

I too would be curious as to what a '26 would bring as well. They are tough for sure.

Great W575-1s. As you know SGC is currently re-evaluating the "hand cut' caveat on these cards since they are obviously not hand cut. I am sending my back to them to take another look at.....Hopefully they give us their honest opinion on the holders and not just company policy.

My new additions. I posted these in separate threads but probably should have posted them here.
First is half the Allen and Ginter N28 set. No creases but a few have what looks like a fingernail impression on the surface.
Second is my first Old Judge Cards. No creases and the backs are extremely clean.
I will probably get these graded at the next Philly show if they have on site grading.
Thanks for looking.

Hi all! Fairly new to this site and glad to be part of the community. I’ve been working on my Red Sox rookie PC lately and since I can’t seem to ever do anything in moderation, I went a little crazy the last few weeks. With REA ending and some well time eBay bucks bonuses, I’ve been able to cross off a few big ones from my hit list. Thanks for looking!

First, I snagged this one off of COMC. Not a high grade, but a decent pickup for COMC:

This is the first card I’ve ever won on REA. Highest graded and a real stunner:

http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j338/SteveSweren/PC%20Project%20Red%20Sox/IMG_20170508_0002_NEW_zpskyiaos8i.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j338/SteveSweren/PC%20Project%20Red%20Sox/IMG_20170511_0004_NEWb_zpshpo9iofu.jpg

Was psyched to pick this up since I blew a chance to get a raw one on here. Only one graded higher and I love the look of this version.

http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j338/SteveSweren/PC%20Project%20Red%20Sox/IMG_20170511_0003_NEWa_zpslb467kjf.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j338/SteveSweren/PC%20Project%20Red%20Sox/IMG_20170511_0004_NEW_zpscwna9qgy.jpg

Now for the big boy. I’ve never spent this much on a card AND still felt like I got a steal. This card is amazing – scan can’t do it justice. Only 2 PSA 10’s in existence.

I agree that a complete set is tough, but I took a shortcut by buying the near-set in REA spring 2015. I've been adding, trading, and upgrading since then...trying to complete the set without marks, major paper loss, or trimming.

I think I had my "aha" moment the first time I saw one too. It was like,
ok, this is what an old baseball card should look like (to me). My first one came from a mimeograph from Gar Miller but when I got it Babe had a wrinkle right through his face which couldn't be seen from the paper picture I had seen.

Yup, would love it, but it's a little steep for me price wise. The mentioned Mile High lot of all 3 signed Dimaggios sold for like $1800 back in I think 2015. The Joe D was really nice and the Vince and Dom were the exact ones I ended up with. Don't think that pricing still applies today!

How about a fancy description of this life-altering card? (What is it? I don't collect 19th C.)

And this is a big deal to me. This card has been #1 on my want list for nearly a decade. I actually have lists, goals and all that outlined on my computer and it was always at the top, black in color as I didn’t have one. I believe this is where our hobby started, I believe this card was issued in 1869 and I believe I will never sell it. It is nowhere near the most valuable card I own but it is the center of my collection and joins my w601 Detroit, 14 Matty and 796 Cobb/Wagner and my favorite cards.

There are 26 of these graded, most look pretty rough and I couldn’t afford a nice one so this was perfect…it also came in 5 spots below my max bid making the whole thing better. It’s advertised as the rarer CdV smaller version which is untrue as the larger trade card has fewer examples, especially those in black ink opposed to red. I found 20 different examples and their images online and these are the numbers:

7 of the larger, trade card variation and all 7 have the p/s ad back.
1 of the larger cards is black ink
6 of the larger cards is in red ink

13 of the smaller, cdv variation with 5 different variations of these
4 w/ the Chadwick’s back like mine
2 w/ a p/s back similar to the chadwicks using text and not pictures
4 w/o any advertising and shows the lineup on the back; 2 of these have text on the front along a side panel while the other two have the text along the bottom panel
1 w/ Red Stockings etc. on the back and no ads
2 where I couldn’t see the back

I wonder what the September 13, 1869 date written on both sides is for though. A quick internet search shows the team was traveling from the end of the season on the eastern side of the country (NY specifically) to the start of the their California tour and first game in Missouri. on the 15th of that month.

But this is in no way a Peck & Snyder card, it has nothing to do with the sporting goods store. This card advertises Chadwick’s reference book produced in 1869. There are several theories out there but this is the first BB card IMO. This concludes a HUGE Spring for me, biggest acquisition period I have ever had including the Betz, a CJ Cobb, a pile of 796s plus some other goodies totaling 19 cards.

So I have learned some things from another member how about the card including the fact it is a 1869 card which I did know, but all of these Cincinnati cards are Peck & Snyder cards, Chadwick's was the editor and p/s was the publisher. I did not know that...

I took the card to work today and showed the couple people I wanted to see and others kept coming up and asking about it. I was surprised how many were interested in it and they were really interested in it and would carefully examine the card. Of course there was the "How much did this cost" questions...

Just saw this article yesterday, a series of colorized baseball photos, which includes the one from your helmar pickup.

Nice pickup guys! Tip Top Wagner a great card to own along with the mascot from the same series. The Peck and Snyder Red Stocking card is another big card worthy of a HOF collection Steven. If you ever get tired of the PC796 (postcard) shaking hands card then send it my way, please!

Congrats to all as May was a very good month for many folks.

Thx, fellas. It is thanks to a fellow board member who took me under his wing when I joined years ago. Then again, as grateful as I am for that gentleman's time and friendship and expertise, the flipside is how much loot has been spent on cards thanks to him, LOL!

Jlange, there are others pictured with that article also used by Helmar, including--at auction this week--that Foxx/Mack photo. The Babe Herman was auctioned on cabinet last week....But article very vague on sourcing and why showing these now, and don't know if Helmar owner bought rights to them or he commissioned, or what.... I bought the Averill/Harder/Johnson card last weej and Grover Cleveland Alexander, not pictured, recently from them, probably same source.

Jay, I hold you directly responsible for this purchase, LOL; never heard of the mascot card until your post— looked it up and dug it so much had to grab one. Thanks for putting me onto it.

Happy to have finally picked up a T210 Tesreau. He might have been HOF worthy if his career did not end so abruptly. He won the ERA title the first year it was a official stat in 1912.

The Robertson is not so bad either:D

Thanks and I would have to agree that I was happy with the price. It was the lowest sale I could find...5 notches below my max and I have been the underbidder on 3 other over the 6 years or so.

Brad - WHAT AN AMAZING PIECE! That thing is a beauty, was that a private deal? If you ever get bored of that PLEASE let me know.

Thanks guys! It's a great piece, hard to find both Anson & Kelly together. It was one of those I tossed out a bid that I didn't think had a chance to win and I won. lol.

So wasn't on a list of anything I was really looking for at the time but thought it was amazing so gave it a shot. I like how it can be tied to the Harpers Weekly woodcut as well.

...they got the grades right but that's the ONLY thing they got right....now if I can just find another one in a BGS holder I'll have hit the trifecta ...

..( for the members who are not all that familiar with the 3 x 5-ish black and white premiums/photocards of the thirties , this "Joe (not "Ducky"; JOE !!) Medwick" is actually a 1934 Wheaties premium from Gold Medal Foods; R313A in the book.
