So I am trying to get the back of my scans to be as DARK as possible. (sorta like deans cards does it. I have tried everything and can't get it quite right. Any suggestions would be great!

I'm assuming you are referring to the background of the scans? If so, the easy way is to simply place a black piece of construction paper (or similar) on top of the card(s) when you scan it.

The other way; if you have Photoshop; scan the image into (or import into) Photoshop, select the card with the marquee tool (draw a rectangle around the outer edge of the card), then select inverse (which will select the background instead of the card) and then fill with black...

Did you scan with the lid open?

Just tried the photoshop thing and it worked. Thanks!

Try it with the lid open and make sure there are no lamps or lights lit near it.

That's what I do for most scans. Background comes out really nice, and there's no extra work required.

I use Ransen software and love it. It automatically crops for you and you can lay multiple cards on the scanner bed and with one scan pass straightens and aligns them. You can also select a border like what you are asking for and it applies it automatically. My default is what you see on the scan below. You can select any color you want and change the size of the border. You can download it and try it for a couple of weeks for free.
