In 2019 it will be the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission. There is a bill for the commemorative coins from the US Mint but for collectors and not circulation like the Sacagawea and Presidents Dollars. Here is a Concept Dollar of the Apollo 11 Mission designed by Daniel Carr .

Is that an actual mint pattern? He's used that astronaut a few times on his own work, many of which are better looking.

To me, if it's for collectors only they should go with a bit deeper relief, and more detail.

Oddly, I was just reading how the presidential dollars haven't been made for circulation for while since the early ones were still sitting in vaults unused.

I would like to see the paper $1 & $5 bill be discontinued and changed to coins. I try to use the $1 coins as much as possible to pay for items but never get them back in as change.

I do like the design of the Apollo 11 Mission coin. I have liked all the $1 coins since they made them slightly larger than a quarter and changed the color of them.

Now Ben, there's an entire industry that would suffer if we did away with $1 bills. Get rid of $5s too, and the workers probably wouldn't be able to afford clothes. Not that that would be a problem for them at work. ;)

I have pretty mixed feelings about it. I like paper money more than coins, but the coins are also a cool thing. The old large size dollars lasted long after they were discontinued in Vegas.

Not loving that concept coin. Not enough drama depicted for one of the biggest accomplishments of mankind. I remember the landing well and have witnessed nothing as historically thrilling since

Not even the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series being historic and thrilling

They should have had the astronaut (Neil Armstrong) taking the first step....
