Could you please explain how and why you can't get a refund from a eBay purchase. In 20 years on eBay I have never had to return anything or had anything returned. With all the horror stories I have heard I thought you could return anything for any reason.

paypal turned you down?

Probably because the item is no longer in the condition it was when it was received.

Did you pursue the refund from PayPal or from ebay? You can do it both ways. Which one denied you? If you pursued it through ebay (and were rejected), I would definitely call PayPal.... and vice-versa.

Good luck... this one should be a no-brainer!

That's exactly how he's getting away with it with what you just said.going to fight through PayPal. and because this guy is an a******. EBay sided with him for that reason. I couldn't upload my pictures even to eBay so I could show them that the Scotch tape was brand new . not from 1940s no less. Now I will fight it through PayPal

That's so annoying. I can just imagine him thinking "well, how am I going to rip another guy off now that you've torn it apart?"

What did this look like when you received it? I am a bit confused by the pictures.

If the tape was new, couldn't you just tape it back together?

It took me a week to pay for it because I was a little leery that it was fake he convinced me that it was real when I got it home there was a little tab on the frame when I opened it off found that it was Scotch tape over that picture that you see. Here is the original picture from eBay

I hate to bring it up, but you can't mail thermometers because of the mercury.

That's not a mercury thermometer. The red liquid is alcohol.

EBay rules against me but PayPal ruled in my favor this morning. At least one of the two has common sense. It appears to me that eBay is all about the seller and never about the buyer

So you get your money back and you get to keep the item? And the dealer that did this to you gets outed in Net54?

Good for you and bad for him. I'd send him a link to this thread if I were you. :D

Yes. He tore me up and down of how rare it was. And how dare me question him. He was horendous to deal with.

I am sorry, but eBay is ALL ALL about the buyer these days, which is why some many collectors with stuff to sell avoid it like the plague. I am very surprised that they backed him in this, but virtually every rule change is about buyer protection. UNfortunately, they do some strange things like getting rid of the insider team who could reports bad autos and get the item pulled, but refunding money is usually a given.

I find it interesting that Stephen agrees that eBay is all about the seller, when he has made it his collecting system to buy things he thinks are good and return the ones he finds out aren't. That is not a critique on his strategy, but considering how many times he says he has done it, in my mind, just proves how for the buyer eBay is.

Regardless, I am glad to see you got refunded and I am glad he got outed here as he didn't volunteer to give the money back. He was forced to do so, by paypal. In my mind, that is acting in a fraudulent manner and deserves outing.

WOW. now PayPal says they're reviewing more information from him. This is incredible

For future reference, you get something like this again, just put it back together, send it back, use "SNAD" (seller not as described as a reason) on Ebay for returning the item, and as soon as the tracking shows delivered you will get your money back, plus shipping.

Don't bother with the back and forth.

When did I say it's all about the seller? My system clearly shows how it's all about the buyer. If I did say that somewhere I apologize cause it's clearly not the case.

Post #15. You agreed with his comments. Perhaps you only meant the first part. My apologies if I misunderstood, but you quoted his entire message, so i assumed you were agreeing with it all. Not sure if you know, but you can edit a quote, so it only posts the section you are referring to
