Nothing too exciting, but figure we can get this thread started. Negro League great.

I just received this 2006 program to The Perfect Evening, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of Don Larsen's World Series Perfect Game.
HOFer Randy Johnson (The Big Unit) just added has signature and perfect game date inscription to the program.

This has been a project that I started in 2006 and I now have 10 of the 11 living perfect game pitchers that had pitched a perfect game by 2006. A long-time hobby friend of mine Joe DeMattio (RIP) attended this event and sat at Tom Browning's table and was thoughtful enough to have him sign and personalize the program for me.

Kenny Rogers (AKA The Gambler) is the last remaining signature that I need to complete this project. Unfortunately, Rogers is an infrequent signer at shows, so I guess I have to continue playing the waiting game..

Just picked this one up, it is a great looking signature and loved the way Frank "Home Run" Baker would sign his autographs. JSA rated a 10 and can see why it is a really eye catching piece and you know how that goes...Had to have it...lol:)

I am not trying to sound obnoxious because it is your piece but why would you cut the photo ?
Granted it has a stain but photos are much more displayable and valuable and easier to get a LOA on than a "cut".
It's your piece but I would keep it as it is.

Understandable question. It is a magazine page, not an actual photo. I don't chop up nice pieces. I chop what I can afford to buy; Uglier stuff.
But, I like cards and collection consistency.

As a Pirate fan, I started with them, and am progressing to other players I like. Robinson, for obvious reasons. W.Johnson; from where I live and buried 2 miles from where I am typing this.

And no, I didn't cut a Wagner check, it was already a cut when I bought it.

It is your collection Jeffery, so you should enjoy it as you wish, but I have to agree with Kevin. IMO, you are taking are taking a more valuable item and making it a less valuable item. I always find it unfortunate when people destroy things like this. Perhaps if it was just a piece of a piece of scrap paper, I could understand. I just think you could make a really nice display out of that photo by matting out the stain like this...

Hmm I'm kind of the opposite. I think it'd be more presentable thus more valuable after Jeff is done with the cutup. You're not cutting up a PC or letter, the sig is placed kinda weird too.

I put this one on interest free layaway almost a year ago and paid it off a few days ago. Made it an affordable way for me to add it.

Just got it in today.

Christy Mathewson

Mark,
That actually does look really nice matted like that. But, thats not for me.

The page is off to PSA/DNA for a full letter at this time, I guess I wouldn't be opposed to considering a strong offer for the page if someone wanted to save it.

Sweet pickup, Brandon! I like that it came with the original envelope and the Terre Haute postmark in 1941.

Hi Dave,
Sweet Sandy A/P! I almost pulled the trigger on this when I saw it on eBay.
I'm glad you won it! :)

"Toothpick" Sam Jones was a negro league pitcher that joined the Cleveland Indians for a brief cup of coffee in late 1951. Jones was back in 1952 for what was his Rookie campaign of a 12 year ML career. This GPC originates from early in his rookie season. On May 12, 1955 Jones captured lightning in a bottle when he no-hit Vern Law and the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-0 at Wrigley, becoming the 1st African American to hurl a no-hitter in the ML.
He also followed this game up with another rain shortened unofficial no-hitter on September 26, 1959 while he was a member of the SF Giants.

Toothpick Sam, who is frequently mistaken for another no-hit pitcher by the same name (Samuel Pond Jones), was called "Toothpick" for his propensity for always pitching with a toothpick in his mouth. Toothpick Sam was believed to be illiterate and an infrequent signer as well as dying relatively young (age 46), making his signature challenging on any medium.

I got lucky, snagging this GPC for a great price on eBay because it was mislabeled as being a signature of the more common Samuel Pond Jones. :)

I know this is not vintage, but Verlander just does not like picking up the pen, let alone signing SS. Usually only does it once a year (Tigerfest, if he shows) and you have to be in the correct line, as they don't give any advanced notice of whom is signing where/when. Have been chasing him for 6 years here in Detroit.

Taz,
JV is a tough one. I got a couple of his autographs at Tigerfest with my son a few years ago. I know the feeling. :)

As an avid climbing enthusiast, I was excited to pick this piece up:

And, to go along with it, I will be picking this little guy up next Friday. In case anyone doesn't think I'm keeping with the theme here, we've decided to name him Makalu (well, Makalu C. McPaws!):

If I were in the market for a Mantle ball today, I would only buy a UDA one. Great pickup.
