What's up slackers? Let's get this thread rolling....what was your best pick up this year?

Mine is for certain the 1914 Boston photo album with most of the Braves signatures on snapshot photos. Including a nice one of the old crab.

Here's a link to the thread about the album with pics of most of the photos and signatures.

My favorite autograph pick up this year was my Roger Clemens autographed tshirt. Bought it from his foundation.

Don't get many autographs but I did get my ultimate auto goal. Roberto Clemente signed ball.

Now that I am finally home from college for the semester I get to see my first Gehrig. Its quite light grading 2/3 but a college budget doesn't allow for high grade Gehrigs but hopefully in the future.

Who said young people aren't interested in the hobby

Not so much a pick up as it is a completion. Finally after about a decade I managed to finish off my Core Four ball when I added Andy in Atlantic City. I am most proud of the fact that Andy was the only signature I paid for:

Crazy good pickups in 2016. Congrats all!
Love that Jackie signed picture and 1914 Miracle Brave scrapbook.

I posted this in the memorabilia side as well, but it would certainly be my 1938 vintage signed Vandy Goldsmith ball with provenance.

Have to go with my first purchase from the year. Love the letterhead, rarity of the signature and the fact that there is no later version of his signature currently known

My fave pu would have to be getting my Apollo 1 crew and backup crew signed at Spacefest. Amazing the entire backup crew is alive and at Spacefest and seeing their faces light up when they saw this picture was worth more than I could have possible imagine. the Apollo 1 crew died in a tragic fire and the backup crew went on to great missions in apollo 9 and 15. The death of the Apollo 1 astronauts changed the entire direction of who was going on what mission and ultimately decided who would be the first man on the moon (as I believe either Gus Grissom or Ed White would have been if they had not been killed). Dave Scott even added a description at the bottom of the picture. That's me standing next to a man that WALKED ON THE MOON. Still blows my mind

Great piece, Sean. Yes, if Gus did not die an untimely death, there is a strong possibility he would have been the first man to step onto the moon.

I've always wanted a Harrison Ford auto and when Billy Dee Williams has some at his table I could not say no.

Thanks Steve! yeah and I think Ed White would have stood a great chance as well thanks to his Gemini eva. Its pretty amazing meeting the Apollo 9 crew. I hope they will all be at Spacefest again this year

As a child wanting to be an astronaut, Edward White was my hero. The Apollo fire was beyond belief. The 50 year anniversary is right around the corner (January 27). I still have my space scrapbook that I put together in the 1960's, including the newspaper clippings from the fire.

.

Has been another very lean year as I continue to limit my spending on either
specific vintage Detroit Tigers autographs I still need for my collection, or
those bargain items too good to pass on.

That said, I managed to cross off two names on my Tigers autograph want
list; Matty McIntyre photo album cut (first name only), and a Sleepy Bill Burns
signed cut. Bargain items too good to pass on in 2016 are represented by a
memo book, pages single signed by most of the 1934 Detroit Tigers
team, including Clyde Hatter.

This is the Sleepy Bill Burns from 1919 world series fame; the go-between from Rothstein to the players? Any chance you could post a picture?

My first Ali autograph is my choice in this category. Picked it up at this year's National with JSA LOA.

“I want to thank the good Lord for making me a Yankee.”
– Joe DiMaggio Day in 1949

My best autograph pickup this past year was my original photo of Joe and Dom on Joe DiMaggio day, October 1st, 1949.
Love the clean Joe D signature on this one.

What a great group of pick-ups. Congrats to all of you. I was lucky enough to pick up a small group of items from a Sam Thompson descendant.

Wonderful pickup, I thought I read his descendants didn't have any autographed items of his. Really amazing piece.

tazdmd- Thanks. I guess it just goes to show that you can't believe everything that you read.
