I bought this decades ago near Saginaw, Michigan. Because I found it in Michigan I'm going to start my research w/Mich BBCs. It's an original period Tin type photo (circa 1870-80) of an early baseball team. Because of the star pennants, I'm guessing this team had the word STAR in their league name. From my research, Michigan had 3 teams using Star.
1... Wyandotte STAR Club 1867
2... STAR Club of Almont (Lapeer) 1866
3... Lone STAR BBC (Plymouth) 1867

Nationally there were approx 34 teams active 1855-1880 with STAR in their leagues name.

The old building in the background may be a clue.
Any input or opinion is appreciated and if this is not appropriate you may delete this. Thank you. Mark.

I don't have any answers for you but that is a fantastic looking tintype. Welcome to the forum too.

I can't tell what this lady is doing. Ive narrowed it down to rubbing on a migraine or using an iphone. If its the latter I'm fairly certain the estimated era is waaay off :D. Having said that I really like this photo

P.S. I attempted to zoom in closer but my Samsung wouldnt allow it

There is a word on the belt of the player you zoomed in on (I assume you noticed). It could be his name, that might help find the team.

I think the belt identifies him as "Captain" since the image is in reverse

The only thing that I know about this photo is that it is awesome.

Good luck in your search, please keep us posted if you find any info.

Whatever the team, one of the nicest baseball tintypes out there.

Oh, I didn't realize it was a mirror image. I see it now. Are tintypes always a reverse image because it's like having the negative?

Exactly. Daguerreotypes and tintypes are essentially negatives but on opaque metal not glass, and the images are reversed. Daguerreotypes came before they began printing paper photos from negatives. Ambrotypes are underdeveloped negatives (backed in black), but you can turn them around so the images don't have to be reversed.
