Thanks to GrayGhost for this original photo of the West Side Park/Grounds in Chicago. A very atmospheric depiction of a bygone era with the game, the skyline architecture and the belching smokestack.

I hope someone can help me pinpoint the date for it. The back identifies it as a circa 1908 photo. I know it is no earlier than 1908 because the grandstand has been already been extended down the left field line. I know it can't be later than 1915 because the Cubs took the large "National League....." lettering from the top rim of the stadium with them when they left.

The old Cook County hospital is readily apparent (left of the distant dark smokestack). I have seen the lighter and nearer smokestack in other photos and postcards but have not seen the darker one. The appearance of the darker smokestack may offer a clue if there is a Chicago historical expert on board?

Anyone else see or know anything that may narrow the range any more?

What was the street address of the park?

It was at the intersection of South Wolcott Ave. and West Polk St.

All framed up and ready for the description to be attached to the back. I'll make one final attempt to see if anyone can narrow the date more than 1908 to 1915.

Great picture. You might consider commissioning a colorization of it - I know some guys who do a great job. Others not so much.

Thanks guys, if Graig Kreindler wasn't already working on a Bender for me I'd consider it, but if one of you guys want to use the image for a painting be my guest.

Not what I meant - 'colorization' involves adding color to a black and white photo, similar to what Ted Turner did with old movies, only good.

May not be much help but a photo in the book "Smithsonian Baseball; Inside The World's Finest Private Collections", has photo from the 1906 WS between the Cubs and Sox. The smokestack on the right is missing and the building to the left of home with signage is missing as well.
