As far as I can tell from the search functions, its been a couple years since there was a thread discussing Buck Barker's writing (http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=196370) on the backs of cards. Recently had a chance to read Old Cardboard's "Meet Buck Barker" (http://www.oldbaseball.com/refs/barker/buckbarker.html) write-up by George V. Good 10 minute read for those that want to know more about a hobby pioneer and the days when things ere a lot simpler (and slower).

There are lots of examples of Barker's research, attention to detail, and recording of provenance on the backs of cards across the collecting spectrum. Show 'em if you've got 'em.

My only two:

also ... if you have thoughts either good or bad on Barker's annotating of cards - for historical reference or personal research - let 'er rip.

I just have this Exhibit card of Charlie Gehringer that Buck used as a postcard to write to fellow collector Jake Wise in 1948. I already posted it a few months ago in my post on the issue date of 1948 Bowman baseball (here: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=223647). I also have a few hobby publications addressed to Barker, which is not quite the same thing, but they're also things he once owned.

Interesting letter, definitely a eclectic writer.

I, personally , think they are great, adds a ton of character :)

Fun, Scott

Even though I have many more Buck encrusted cards, the same dang scan of Zeenuts as shown in the other linked thread will have to suffice...sometimes a guy gets awfully tired when scanning. A personal favorite is the James Cagney superimposed strip like image that Buck worked his research around. In my mind his writing on a card (especially on the blank backed Zeenuts) makes it many times more interesting.

Buck writing in 1973, again to Tom Collier. This sounded like some fun collecting, pre-internet.
