ontariogil on ebay has sold since July 30+ Mike Witt black box cards on Ebay. I s this person selling fakes? These were suppose to be very rare yet these pop up out of no where. In May he showed up on a forum saying he had a couple of them and asked about value, then a couple of months later 30+ end up for sale. Something seems off to me. Anyone else have any information?

I'm new to this site and I've never been a collector, but I've been reading post and I admire all the work and the knowledge that goes into the trading business, and I've got one card in my collector, iactually a couple of the 1990 Upper Deck Mike Witt error card #702...I have no idea what it's worth but the research I've read about say it's a rare card, would appreciate a little feedback on whether I should sell or hold on to up,thanks all.

Sold Ebay:

I will say I bought one this morning and then realized the quantity and am now trying to get ebay to cancel the sell because I am very leary about this.

I think I found the answer. There was an 800 count find of these cards in may. I hadn't heard about it until I was digging for more information. At least this post may be useful to others like me.

Cool link. That is one of the few junk era error cards i have never had any interest in. That 800 count box has got to kill Rich T and his attempts to sell them for $1000+ apiece.:)

There was a thread about this find on CU sometime back. My variation/variant collecting is pretty much limited to Bowman, Topps and Fleer, so happy to report that one never tempted me either.

Yeah, he found an 800 ct. box. I covered the whole thing after being contacted by Rich and later seeing Gil's freedomcardboard post on them. You can read here with links to the original FCB post.

I was looking through my old posts elsewhere, and had documented that in October 2011, an example of this card sold for $843.

Amazing how a "find" of these back-doored variations has ruined the market and interest in this card.

Not just the find but the way he released the information. Had he been slowly leaking them into the hobby he may have continued to get high prices for a while. Yet as soon as he mentioned it and flooded ebay the cards depreciated very quickly.

I will say that the seller is very honest from my dealings with him. After I had doubts, but before finding the story of the find, I asked for him to cancel the sale. He did it even though he had no obligation to do so.
