Howdy,

I have another plea for help identifying a signature on a signed ball that I inherited from Dad. Additionally, any help identifying a common theme for this ball would be welcomed! I've checked team / HOF / MVP / All-Star and have come up empty.

Anyway, here's a picture. I'm wondering about the bottom-most signature on this panel, below Haddix.

Here's the list that I can identify:

Dick Schofield
Bob Friend
Bill Mazeroski
Lloyd Waner
Hal Smith
Smoky Burgess
Bobby Bragan
Elroy Face
Gene Baker
George Witt
Harvey Haddix
?
Rocky Nelson
Bob Oldis

Thanks!

thanx!

took me a bit of time as at first i thought the first letter was a "P" then I noticed it was a "J" that was mingling with The Y in "HARVEY" that made it pretty easy to look up the J sigs for early 60's pirates.

I spent a few minutes trying to figure it out and was thrown off by thinking the first name was "Jack."

Probably 1959 or 1960 Pirates, BTW. George Witt played on the 1961 LA Angels

I'm leaning toward a ball signed in 1960 with some old-timers hanging around. Hal Smith, Gene Baker, Joe Gibbon, and Bob Oldis aren't listed on the '59 roster (http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/PIT/1959.shtml).

Lloyd Waner retired in '45 and Bragan was replaced by Murtaugh in '57.

What kind of stories did George Witt tell you in high school?
