Since 2000, The Wrapper, the oldest magazine for collectors of non-sports cards, has had three articles about Jefferson Burdick, the father of card collecting, which I've posted below. First, in issue #181 (August 15-October 1, 2001), Alan Miley wrote about a copy of the 1939 U.S. Card Collectors Catalog that he had bought at a paper auction, and showed the announcement letter from Burdick (dated March 1, 1939) that was stuck in the book. Leon posted John Wagner's copy of this announcement letter last year, along with a typed letter from Burdick to Wagner (in this thread: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=207890), but this shows that the announcement was widely distributed (within the subculture of card collectors).

Chris Benjamin later wrote a couple of articles for The Wrapper about Burdick. In #210 (April 1-May 15, 2005), he wrote a bio of Burdick that doesn't have anything really new, but which is useful to have. In issue #228, Benjamin reprinted the editorial that Burdick wrote for Card Collector's Bulletin #60 (June 1, 1949), in which he handed over the editorship of CCB to Charles Bray. Leon posted that full issue of CCB a few years ago (here: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=148344), but I'll post the article anyway.

We don't see a lot written on Jefferson Burdick himself. Great article by Chris. I think I might have been able to help a bit on it had I had an opportunity. I love studying the history of the hobby and there is no one who has ever been more instrumental than Mr. Burdick.
