The other day, I posted 12 columns on the history of baseball cards that Lionel Carter wrote for Sport Fan between 1955 and 1957. (That thread is here: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=227125.) I didn't post one of his columns from 1957 because it wasn't about the history of baseball cards, nor did I post his later Sport Fan columns because that post was long enough already. Well, now I've scanned the rest of them, and I'm going to post them, breaking out a couple of particular interest into separate posts.

The first one below is the off-topic one from the April 1957 Sport Fan, with Carter's account of the sports-related things he saw on his and his wife Irma's trip to Florida for spring training. Of interest here is his account of his meeting with Wirt Gammon and Charles Bray, both of whom he was meeting in person for the first time, and Gammon's fiancee.

Next, from the March-April 1958 Sport Fan, is Carter's review of the World Tobacco Issues Index and Handbook from the Cartophilic Society of Great Britain.

Next, from the July-August 1958 issue, are two articles: Bob Jaspersen's front-page article about Lionel and Irma Carter's visit to his house, including Lionel's plans for a convention of collectors at his house on July 9, and Lionel's article about M cards (periodical cards).

Then, from the March-April 1959 issue, is Carter's review of the baseball card sets of 1958.

Finally, from the July-August 1959 issue, Carter wrote about the letters he had received from Buck Barker and Woody Gelman about his review of 1958 cards.

In separate posts, I'll post the last two Sport Fan articles by Carter, and tomorrow night I'll post an article about that mini-convention that was, in fact, held at his house on July 9, 1958.

Lionel Carter called variation collectors "oddity hounds". I thought that was funny.
