Is the market for this type of card at this level?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-T206-Tobacco-Merritt-Ghost-Back-Neat-Print-Freak-Piedmont-/121565765994?hash=item1c4de2616a:g:KZwAAOSwqu9U2BA 3

It would be cool to have one in the collection, but if the price of such cards is at that level, there are other cards I would rather purchase.

no...the true "value" of these such cards is significantly less than this asking price.

Zoiks! WST's are nowhere near that. Examples of those have even been known to have been "created" recently haven't they?

I've never understood the variation, ghost, multi-strike, or error craze..

So you can get a multi strike, or ghost of a random, common player or a nice Cobb, Johnson, young, matthewson....

maybe I'm missing something?

This is a wet sheet transfer and not a true factory printed ghost, much less detailed and worth very little. A true ghost would be worth around half the asking of the one listed above.

So mine is not out of range. Mine is also graded Ex 60. There is also going to be an Elberfeld in REA's next auction let's see how that goes.

Another case where t206 does not correlate to the other sets. There is no way this card would command $4k or even $1k.

The days of the freaky prices for T206 freaks are behind us.

I feel pretty confident that there are some non-T206 ghosts that would still bring a pretty penny. :D

I want to offer him $30, that's what it's worth to me. Think he'd go for it?

The seller is a long-time board member, shoot him a pm. :D

Sure, Dan loves lowball offers. :D

Of course I was being a little facetious, but not that much. Seriously, what would you guys offer?

Sean

I wouldn't pay $100 for it.

But I wouldn't bother making that type of offer.

OK, so our heads in the same place. Obviously I wasn't really going to waste both of our time with my offer either, was trying to be amusing.

Historically speaking that is funny. I missed shooting the breeze with him this year. Sometimes he reads the board, sometimes not. I shot him a crazy lowball offer once and got some fireworks back, if I recall correctly. He didn't know I was messing with him and didn't know it was me. :D
