Amateur Question: they have an unopened 1950 Bowman pack that is Certified Authentic. What does that mean? I have only seen packs with grades on it. Does this mean the pack has been "searched" or something else?

It still means it's unopened, but no numerical grade was assigned.

Why would they not assign a grade?

Also, why so many Don Baylor championship rings on the block?

Nice to see the Gehrig rookie Exhibit so strong out of the box. There's a card that should explode in value. Though folks on this board have been saying that for a while.

Looks like the Gehrig is still going. 22.7k already. Nice to see. Unfortunately it looks like a 16 Ruth will be out of reach of a PSA 2 is now a 100k plus card.

Yeah, it would seem to make sense that Gehrig's rookie would follow in the heels of the M101-5/4 Ruth. They are probably comparable in rarity, in fact the Gehig might actually be a bit scarcer.

I love to bid early in these auctions. Then show my wife and scare her to death, when in reality, I likely have a better chance of winning powerball than winning anything at my bid levels. However, when I buy something later in the 500 to 1k range she actually feels relief and I avoid an a$$ chewing. Lol

Mark

PS - I hope I don't get caught someday as high bidder and forced to take out a second mortgage to cover purchasing something I was playing games on. Lol

I used to do the same thing on T206 Wagners: get in an early bid around $30 -40K. People would say to me "Be careful. What if you actually win?"

And I would say "If I get a Wagner for $30K I'll come up with it somehow. And it will be the best moment of my life." :D

I owned a raw NM-MT Gehrig, which turned out to be an SGC 6, bought from Mastro Auctions while on vacation in Mexico some 16 yrs ago. My guess is the Gehrig is somewhere closer to 10x-20x more rare than the Ruth. That's based on what I have seen, is only a guess, and your mileage may vary :).

Leon, I remember that card and it was awesome!! Didn't an autograph version of his rookie card go for like 30k not too long ago? I completely agree with Kevin and others that the 1925 Exhibit of Gehrig is way under valued. Here is the scan of the Heritage Gehrig.

Here was my Gehrig Exhibit RC sold in Goodwin Auction - July, 2014. Admittedly not as nice as the Heritage example but $2,400 compared to whatever this one goes for....

Unbelievable! Boy, do I know how to pick which cards to sell and which cards to hold on to.........

I was underbidder on a 2, sold at about $2400 right around that same time, also on Goodwin. Kicking myself hard for passing on that one. Glad to have since picked up a like pose '27 Exhibit though.

One word of caution about the 1925 Exhibits Gehrig is that it is often mislabeled by the TPG's with the 1926 version which looks exactly the same, but has a bluish tint. For example, here is one that sold on ebay Link (http://www.ebay.com/itm/1925-Exhibits-Lou-Gehrig-SGC-10-HOF-rookie-card-/162072107446), that looks like it is a mislabeled 1926 version due to the bluish tint. Of course, the 1926 Exhibits is actually rarer than the 1925 one.

WOW, Gary, even if it is a '25 as labeled, a $10K sale for a card with multiple heavy creases across the entire width of the card seems crazy when mine being much nicer sold for $2,400....Geez......

Hi Phil, actually according to watchcount, this card was sold via Best Offer for "only" $5500.

Here's mine. No blue tint that I can see. Hopefully it's a real '25. I have felt this card has been under valued and appreciated for quite a while. It's nice to see the market catching up. Although that Heritage card looks under graded to me.

Looks like the rarest T206 card is also listed, and no I'm not talking about the Joe Doyle. The Tinker Chicago/Cubs error variation. There's only 3 known to the hobby. I believe this is the same one that REA sold a few years ago.

Definitely an interesting card. I think TPGs should list it as a legit variation.

Leon - on a sheer "pop" basis (PSA & SGC), Gehrig rookie approx. 2.5X scarcer. If you take into account raw copies, I would guess 3-4X would be the number.

It seems like I see a lot more Ruth rookies than Gehrigs. But if the pop report says it ain't so, who am I to argue? ;)

Ridiculous.

"1968 Topps Nolan Ryan - Mets Rookie Stars #177 PSA Gem Mint 10. The biggest hobby story of 2016 is the surging market for elite rookie cards, a market at which Heritage finds itself proudly leading. In the first half of 2016, we have established new high-water marks for the Mantle and Mays rookies of the 1952 Topps issue at their respective grades, and the 1955 Topps Clemente at any level. It's a raging bull market we attribute to a flood of new money in the game, a factor that we expect will propel pricing superlatives for years to come."

You bet it is a game. At some point investors cash out. It will be interesting to watch when/if the bottom falls out of this market.
