This card is at $136K! with many glaring issues for a 9. Ugly white circle P.D. by Rose, noticeable slant centering, and the bottom right corner has a bad touch. Also, P.D.'s in the blue background. Oh by the way, 8 days left! Absolutely unbelievable, and the back is not even well centered!.....No way in Hell this card is a 9, maybe a 7.5, 8 at absolute best...

I think it should be graded a 7 or 7.5

The Rose has a fair amount of snow in the red as well. But it's a 9, it's a commodity, it doesn't really matter. This is the investment era.

Some people are just buying these for investments or flipping. It doesn't matter if it's a crappy card as long as they can sell it for more later.

Some people are just buying these for investments or flipping. It doesn't matter if it's a crappy card as long as they can sell it for more later. This is true. There's some new money coming into the hobby and it's chasing after the grade on the holder.

That being said, the card in question is still extremely nice. PSA has increasingly tightened up their grading standards over the past several years. They've also done a considerable amount of work/advertising to promote their services and products. The current prices (this card; elsewhere) are no accident.

Nice card, WEAK 9.
Appears to be a newer holder.
Was this done before or after the tightening?
Tilt cut, fish eye right by Rose's name but nice corners.
It doesn't matter - they are not bidding on the card - just the number.

i would not grade it below an 8. Biggest "eyesore" to me is the slant/tilt. No card is perfect...the print blemishes mentioned are minor. And the corners are strong. Final grade would be an 8...IMHO.

To me, something else other than new money (which has been around for a while now) and PSA promotion accounts for the off the charts increase from a month ago. 35 to 135 and counting. Uh, OK, whatever. But I am just a cynic, not a staunch defender of the status quo.

Hmm Porsche GT3 or Rose rookie card graded psa 9 (a piece of cardboard). This is beyond ridiculous. For some this is not going to end well.

Definitely not a nice 9 but it does not matter. The tilt is hard on the eyes and centering at it worst points is probably does not meet the 9 criteria. Wondering if this was reholdered in order to cleanse the flip? Find it hard to believe with the way they are grading right now they would give that anything higher than an 8.

funny how some sellers comment about 'newly graded' where you can just get a new flip for a few bucks....

It would be nice if there was a forum where ebay sellers could go to complain about bidders retracting their bids. That way the community could block them as a whole. That works, right? Or can they just change their name and do it again?

they can change their name with new account but feedback would be very small...you can block people under a certain amount of feedback

There is a lot of flip cleansing going on now to give the perception/illusion that the card is graded during a stricter time.

I agree with that cynic part of you Peter. And do not discount PSA promotion in this. Guaranteed this card will become a centerpiece of some new ad campaign for them. Bidding up this card can only help their corporate card grading image. And based on the flaws of a tiny piece of cardboard that I am reading about here, there was some PSA self interest in giving this card this grade.

And Pete just breaks 150K, as the top 2 bidders are no strangers to bid retractions. But no surprise!

I don't know which of these two scenarios is more absurd: PSA 9 Rose sells for $150k or that the same seller is offering up a 1986 Wilbur Marshall for $6k!!

You wanna make an argument for it being a $500 card in PSA 10? I will still laugh though I can at least follow the logic. But $6,000?!?!

Part of the reason the pop is 3 is....who in his right mind is sending mid to late 1980s Topps football COMMONS into PSA for grading? It's not like 1933 Goudey commons....

I tried this argument in another thread in reference to a 1986 Topps Ryne Sandberg PSA 10 for $2500. I got nowhere, don't bother.

I understand from some insiders that PSA isn't giving out many 9s and 10s anymore. So in essence they are manufacturing value with their (lack of) grading high grade cards the way they should be.
