Hey just sorting some cards and it got me thinking.Have any of you guys ever notice a trend in packs? I remember being a kid and it seemed like every year
It was the same player showing up in everything I bought( YES and most of the times I was not a star player ). Even now looking through my cards I can see a longer trend of payers I've accumulated.

Guys I've accumulated over time
Favre
Elway
Clemens
Jeter
Others that I remember pulling
Terry Glenn
Jamal Lewis
Corey Dillon
Ron gant
Mark mulder
Chipper jones

Sometimes.

I forget who, but there was one guy in 74 that I had maybe 20 of. The others I had maybe a few where I'd gotten three.

And 94 Signature rookies I kept getting this same guy from the Yankees
Of course, later I was happy to have three signed Jeter cards. (Down to the one keeper now)

In one early batch of 81 Donruss each pack had 11 of the same card and 4 random ones. Not messed with as I saw the case get opened. The dealer pulled them and sent them back before I could get any, one kid got 11 Yaz cards, his friend got 11 checklists.

1978 Topps Mike Lum still haunghts me to this day. I would buy 3-4 packs when I could back in the day, and it just seemed like he would show up every time.

Had 13 Mantle switch hitter connects cards from the 1962 set. Probably beat the crap out of all of them.

As a kid buying packs in 1957, my nemesis was always Herb Plews. Must have had a dozen of 'em. :D

My first packs in 1965 always contained Gary Bell. I think I got one in each of my first five packs.

My brother and I plastered the back of our bedroom door with 1967 Phil Roof cards. Seemed like he was in every pack that year. Roof managed to stay in the MLB for 17 seasons while batting .215.

In 1960 it was the rookie card with that unspellabe name- Y A Z something.
In 1962 it was Cuno Barragon. Life has a way of evening out.

Barry Bonnell in 1979. I could have wallpapered a room with those cards. However, in 1976, I was convinced there was no Bill Madlock card... absolutely convinced!

lol. My friends and I spent the summer of 1980 trying to get Kent Tekulve to finish our sets. Seems like we had 10 of every other card, but the Tekulve was elusive for some reason. Finally at a birthday party my buddy Aaron got an unopened box as a present. He gave one pack to each of us (at the suggestion of his mother) and his little brother pulled the Tekulve. It was madness. We spent all day working trade offers to get that card.

Vern Ruhle. It seems like every freakin' pack I busted as a kid had at least one Vern Ruhle card. I must have had a dozens of his '79 and '80 Topps.
Rip a pack. Rip a box. Rip a whole damn case. Rickey Henderson? Nope. Vern Ruhle. Reggie Jackson? Nope. Ruhle.

A couple of years ago, I bought some new Topps pack while standing in line in Wal-mart; and I won some redemption for a real vintage Topps card. I remember I was super excited; who would it be? Nolan Ryan maybe? Willie Mays? Maybe even a Mantle?

You know where this is going, right? :)

Maybe it is time to embrace my destiny, and become the #1 Vern Ruhle collector on PSA.

In 1979 Miguel Dilone seemed to be in every pack. By the time I'd accumulated 500 total cards, I'd had 47 Miguel Dilones.

In 1980 I was still getting that damned 1979 Miguel Dilone in my pack. By the time I'd accumulated 500 1980 Topps, I'd had 32 1979 Miguel Dilones in my stack.

For 17 straight years I was pulling the dreaded 1979 Miguel Dilone out of packs.

Fast forward to 1997. I can only assume the Topps company ran out of the Miguel Dilones. I heard some buyer out of Brunswick, New Hampshire bought all of them up and decided to corner the market on them. Unfortunately, I'd accumulated a total of 832 of them. More than enough to fill an 800 count box, so I wound up selling the 32 extra cards to the New Hampshire guy.

I also seemed to pull a Tekulve out of every 1980 topps pack. In 1984, all I pulled seemed to be complete packs of 1984 Fleer Don Hood cards. It seemed like I had a billion of them. Fast forward about 15 years and I run into Don Hood in Florida. He gives me an autographed 1984 fleer card. It was like the twilight zone.

1978 Mike Lum. Someone else mentioned it already.

When I first got in to cards, (2005 Topps) it seemed like the only Red Sox player I ever got was Johnny Damon, who had just signed with the Yankees. I also bought the Topps Heritage packs for a few years, and I think I only pulled one Red Sox the entire time.
