I have never made one of these posts before but figured this one warrants it: there is a fake Broad Leaf 460 Bender, an unconfirmed but possible card, on Ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-11-T206-Chief-Bender-HOF-Philadelphia-Athletics-No-Trees-Broadleaf-Back-/351740160795?hash=item51e558eb1b:g:cI4AAOSwU1FXQR8 R

I see several things things wrong with this listing, including his completed sales of original, signed artwork by Monet ($38) and Warhol ($200), and the color and resolution of the card. The kicker is that the back is the same BL 460 back that Ted used to start his BL thread:

http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=125062

The guy made some edits, especially above the Base Ball Subjects line, but you will notice that the marks on the frame from that line down, both left and right, match photo in Ted's post.

(I tweaked the Ebay scan a bit to make the colors look a little more like Ted's.)

I agree that your post may be the first call out of a potentially passable T-206 fake on ebay that I've ever opened.

I think these posts have helped me. Not that I would ever be able to afford a BL (at least not now).

These posts among others are probably why when I look at the card in that listing I automatically don't even consider it genuine the slightest.

I reported it this morning; we'll see if they delete the listing.

John,

Seeing as I've never reported an item to eBay, what did you say? Does it ever actually work? The seller didn't list it as a reprint or genuine. Just wondering how you can persuade eBay into believing it's not authentic for reference.

I probably would have done this before but wasn't sure what to say when trying to report an item and wasn't sure if eBay would even care.

Nice post, Bryan. Impressive catch of the back from Ted's thread.

This is also a good reminder that checking raw (and graded) cards on a regular computer is a must. I frequently look at items on my phone via the ebay app, but the app compresses pictures so much that you can't see details at all.

Cheers,
Steve

I selected that it was likely counterfeit and linked to this thread. If eBay gets enough of them, they will normally cancel the listing. The other option is to reason with the seller. My guess is this seller doesn't normally deal in cards and was sold this as real, and doesn't realize it's a fake. Send them a message through eBay and see how they respond.

Thanks John. Maybe I'll help the cause and submit one myself!

Out of curiosity, how accurate are the charts included with Inside T206? This card is indeed noted as not having a BL 460 variant in the Centennial edition.

An original signed by Monet for $38??? Hello!!!!!!

I am not sure how accurate inside T206 is. The T206 resource is really the best pace to look IMO as they have done a lot of research and indicate which unconfirmed cards are likely to exist (those that are unconfirmed and unlikely to have been printed simply get a "no").

He did list it as GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC though, all in capital letters and bold.

Hey guys,

I thought I should chime in on this conversation since this ebay guy apparently stole my BROAD LEAF 460 scan.

Bender (no trees) is possible with the BL 460 back; but, has yet to be confirmed.

This card on ebay is not for real.

Check-out my illustrated info I have posted here regarding the tougher 460-type backs in the 350/460 series of the T206 set......

"Pictures are worth 1000 words"....therefore, I have constructed these scans of the 350/460 series subjects in order to illustrate how the mutually-exclusive 460-type backs
in this series resulted from American Lithographic separating these 63 subjects into two print groups.

Group A of the 350/460 series includes 35 subjects printed and issued with these four 460-type backs (circa..late 1910 > early 1911).

Factory #25 VA ......................... Factory#42 N.C.

Conversely, these 35 subjects were NOT PRINTED with.... AMERICAN BEAUTY 460....UZIT

Group B

http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan77/images/McQuiWiltse14cards13x.jpg

Group B of the 350/460 series includes 28 subjects printed and issued with these two 460-type backs (circa..Feb-Mar 1911).

Conversely, these 28 subjects were NOT PRINTED with.... SWEET CAPORAL 460 Factory 25....SWEET CAPORAL 460 Factory 42....red HINDU....BROAD LEAF 460

Note
The LENOX brand....so far, 42 of these 63 subjects have been confirmed with the LENOX back. I haven't included LENOX in this analysis since a discernible pattern isn't quite
evident at this time. It's still a work in progress.

Your inputs on anything related to this subject are appreciated.

Nice work on this one, Bryan!!

Thanks Leon. I hope I saved someone some money and/or a big headache. I see that the auction was ended, so nice work to those of you who contacted the seller/told Ebay.

Nice work on this one, Bryan!!

Great job Bryan!
And using Ted's picture?
This is why I love this website. Plenty of knowledge shared, and folks looking out for one another.
On behalf of someone who would have been taken to the cleaners, job well done, my friend.
