1954 topps Hank Aaron
1952 topps Willie mays
1953 topps Willie mays
1953 topps Mickey mantle
1958 topps Jim brown
1968 topps Nolan Ryan
1965 topps Joe Namath
1986 fleer Michael Jordan

My want list is ever Changing. I would like to see how some of the other board members order would look if this was your want list. It might help me focus on a particular card. I might also totally confuse my efforts lol. Let me know what you find has a priority to go after first and WHY.

What I WANT and what I can afford to HAVE are two different things!

So, I will do a list of what I want that I can actually afford.

In no particular order:

1969 Johnny Bench
1974 Hank Aaron
1962 Mickey Mantle
1956 Ted Williams
1955 Hank Aaron

Nice topic to kick around! I'm looking forward to seeing what others say.

I think that is a good order for those cards. I might move the Ryan up ahead of the Brown and the Namath down to last.

Thanks Peter ! Lou I meant help me priorutise my want list. But I really don't mind seeing anyone else's . That is is if the want to share .I really don't spend much on cards i save a little here and there until I can buy one nice card. Then I take a break and buy a few smaller cards.

It would help me so much more if I would pay better attention!!!

I like your list, and would move the 53' Mantle to just behind the 54' Aaron.

If this was my current want list, my personal order would be:

1954 topps Hank Aaron
1968 topps Nolan Ryan
1953 topps Mickey mantle
1952 topps Willie mays
1986 fleer Michael Jordan
1953 topps Willie mays
1958 topps Jim brown
1965 topps Joe Namath

I'm actually a fan of all of these cards. I own about half of them, and plan to add the other half some day.

I just picked up an upgrade for my 53 Mantle and have a PSA 4.5 available if you're interested.

The OP has now said twice he wants help in prioritizing HIS OWN want list. He isn't asking what's on ours.

I agree with your first pick as it is one I desire as well

I have a 52 Topps Mays already so I can't say that is my second choice.

Mine are 54 Aaron like you.
1955 Sandy Koufax
1954 Ernie Banks
1956 Mantle (love that card)
1955 Clemente Rookie

The rest are 1952 Topps that I'd like to add to my collection, which include, Joe Black, Warren Spahn, Duke Snider, Yogi Berra, Eddie Mathews, Billy Martin, Bill Dickey, Andy Pafko, Phil Rizzuto, Richie Ashburn, and a few others of course.

Most of what I have listed above are pipe dreams however as I personally can't ever seeing me being able to afford them, especially the rookies I listed.

"how would your want list look?"

fine print.

Actually this referred to how would the order of your list look if those 8 cards were the ones on your list. However in the OPs follow up he did mention he wouldn't mind seeing our personal want lists. So it seems you're both right.

Bob,I don't think anyone would disagree with your first choice. Most of the cards I listed are some what obtainable for me in low grade. After some saving and sacrifice. I don't know if I will ever own the entire list. And I tend to get side tracked.

Like I know a guy at the local card show that has a few Jim Brown rookies. So I've been considering just picking one up to knock something off my list.i think this might have recently bump higher in my list. This why I posted this thread. But the majority seems to agree with the 1954 topps Hank Aaron.

54 Aaron - I have a feeling this is going to sky rocket pretty soon
86 Jordan - I'm a huge bball fan and is one of the entire hobby's most iconic cards!
58 Brown - One of the best RB of all time and I'm a fan of the pose!
68 Ryan - Legendary player, not the prettiest set, but can get a decent grade at an affordable price still!
65 Namath - Not a good looking card 👎🏼
Then the rest...

I'm partial to rookies just because I like the allure of it being their first card, but I must say that the 53 Mantle is a beautiful card!!!

Peter-- maybe they just think the OP is working on a bum list and should be looking for their cards instead. Maybe they just want the competition for their lists :)

05-10-2016, 05:11 PM
The answer depends on your condition bias. If you are happy with lower grade cards, virtually all of the cards on the OP list are do-able. If you want top number plastic, not so much.

As for prioritizing a buy I'd go after the card I like the most first. Again, using the OP list and assuming I don't have any of the cards listed:

1954 topps Hank Aaron
1952 topps Willie mays
1958 topps Jim brown
1968 topps Nolan Ryan
1953 topps Willie mays
1953 topps Mickey mantle
1965 topps Joe Namath
1986 fleer Michael Jordan

I don't like 1953 Topps, Namath or Jordan. Aaron's RC beats any other card on the list IMO, and Jim Brown is the GOAT of football. I grew up marveling at Ryan, and the 1952 Mays is a card I owned as a kid and would not mind getting back.

Topps of my want list right now would probably be these:

1968 Topps Ryan: see above
1954 Topps Gordie Howe: love the card
1972 Topps Julius Erving: favorite as a kid; only one I need of his early cards
1972 Topps Pete Maravich: really like the card
1954 Topps Ernie Banks: great card, had when I was a kid and want it back

Time 1952 topps mays was number one.

I had a chance to pick up a good looking Jim brown rookie . It was very hard to pass up 🤔. Great focus and color , no crease, rounded corners but not to bad , and the centering was off a bit right to left .

Right now my want list looks like this...

Reasonably centered, EX to NM common Braves Topps card from 1960 to 1965 that's in my price range.

Being since I mainly collect 52 Topps cards, these are cards I'd like to own some day.

52 Topps, Warren Spahn, Bob Feller, Richie Ashburn, Joe Black, Roy Campenella, Andy Pafko, Eddie Mathews, Yogi Berra, Hoyt Wilhelm, Billy Martin, Monty Irvin, Phil Rizzuto, Joe Page, Bill Dickey and Duke Snider.

There are many others that I don't own yet either, but these are the ones I can currently think of.

Outside of the 52 Topps cards, I'd love an Aaron RC, a 56 Topps Mantle, a Koufax RC and of course a Babe Ruth card.:D

I like to get the key HOF Rookie second year cards at the best possible grade I can afford. 55 Topps Aaron, 53 Topps Mantle, 53 Topps Mays, 52 Bowman Mantle, and the 56 Topps Clemente. Since I can't afford the key rookies in nice grade I go for their sophomore cards :-)

I'm mostly into pre-War, but I am seeking these post-War toughies:

- 1948-50 Safe-T-Cards - Clark Griffith & Bucky Harris.
- 1952 National Tea bread label - Mickey Vernon.
- 1956 Big League Stars - unopened package - Mickey Vernon (Boston).
- 1962 Salada-Junket Coin with clip back - Pete Runnels.
- 1963 & 1963 Jello complete boxes with Pete Runnels.
- Any Bowman or Topps salesman's 3-card sample that includes either Pete Runnels or Mickey Vernon.

I prefer emails (ekehl333@aol.com) to PMs.

I'd love to get 8! That would mean at least 8 exist. Right now only 4 are known to exist, although I've heard a rumor about a 5th one.

Of course the last 2 cards on my list have 0 known copies ... so a card with 4-5that exist seems easy in comparison!

Cheers,
Patrick

End of the year UPDATE⬇️

So I got the 1954 topps Hank Aaron rookie in a bccg 6 . I don't really care who graded it I'm just happy to own the card. I think a bccg is a bvg 2 ? But either way it's off the list .

I also was able to get the 1952 topps Willie Mays psa1. It looks good for PSA 1. So that's off the list .

Now the Jordan rookie ...... I ended up looking for a alternative after seeing a thread that had a bunch of showcases with the 86 fleer rookies coving every inch . I thought about how often I seen this card over the years as well. So after some soul collecting searching . I found that I wanted the 1985 Nike Jordan . It is a card I personally have never seen in person (until I got one) . It is cross collectible as it is the image that would later become the jumpman logo on the Jordan brand of products . It is a globaly known image of the most popular sports figure of his time and it's a year earlier then his fleet card. So I check it off the list .

Should I keep moving down the list ? Or should I totally reconfigure my top ten list and start fresh for the year ?
